Advantages: very fresh and clean smelling, lasts ages, cheap to buy
Disadvantages: Whether you like the smell is down to individual taste
Having been recently introduced to Yankee Candles (or rather, my student loan has been introduced to them), I have to say I have become pretty hooked. One of the varieties I have bought most recently (and there are a plethora to choose from!) is Clean Cotton. As with all Yankee Candles, you can buy the mini ones, the jars, the larger candles or the tartlets. On this occasion, I bought the tartlet version of Clean Cotton.
As you may imagine from the name, this variety is a pure white colour. The tarlets have a waxy feel to them, slightly more rougher in texture than the actual candles and have "Yankee Candle Co" printed into the top. They have a bit of a serrated edge, although these edges are not sharp and the tartlet itself does not crumble easily as you may suspect from the picture.
Being the lovingly sister that I am *ahem*, I like to make sure my Brother's room is nice and clean for when he comes home, which is only 2/3 times a year as he now lives down south. Aside from changing the bed, hovering, dusting and fishing out the odd sock from under his bed and ninja kicking it into the washing bin, I also like to make sure it smells nice too. I decided the tartlet version of Clean Cotton was the perfect candidate for the job - powerful, fresh smelling, long lasting - and not the slightest bit feminine. If I had of put something a little more up my street (black cherry Yankee Candle) the response from him would have been "what the eks that!" - so you see, it was a delicate mission.
The tartlet's are quite small and discreet, but not too small to be ineffective and fit nicely on a shelf. The wonderful thing about clean cotton, is in a bedroom it reflects the smell of clean bed linen perfectly, and gives continuous fresh aromas without relying on a plug in or asthma-inducing room sprays. It's not my favourite variety of Yankee Candle, but for this purpose I think it's perfect and as it's a tartlet doesn't carry the same fire hazards as a candle.
I placed this candle in his room about 3 weeks ago, and the smell is still going strong (especially as it sits on my desk as I write this review). As it is 2 sided, if the smell was to diminish you could simply turn it over or split it in half to release aromas, but I think the smell will last for a long while yet.
Perhaps one of my favourite aspects about Yankee Candles, is they are surprisingly cheap to buy. This particular tartlet, will set you back 99p on www.theyankeeshop.co.uk, and is also widely available in House of Fraser and many other retailers. For me, I think the long lasting smell you get out of Yankee Candle products makes the price very justifiable, and can really spice up your home.
As for my Brother, I don't think he even noticed I had cleaned up his room and done his laundry. Well, you can't have everything!
Summary: Will make your home (and brother's rooms) smell fresh and clean
