Advantages: Clean scent, powerful
Disadvantages: Not quite homely and warm enough
I recently went a bit mad while doing some online shopping and bought a huge amount of Yankee Candle Tarts, in fact I think the number was close to 30 by the time I finished! However although I thought this was probably over the top, having a lovely Yankee Candle burning is my little daily indulgence and I always get my money's worth from them!
This particular tart was bought prior to my Yankee shopping spree and I did consider buying a replacement for it which shows it's got a nice scent or else I wouldn't have given it the thought! This one is called 'Clean Cotton' and I choose it because I quite like 'white' smells around the home-lillies, washing etc so thought this would be a nice one to try.
It cost me 89p as part of a mix and match selection of ten tarts on ebay and I've seen this actual tart in Clinton's Cards for £1.15 so I think it's great value! You avergae, current range tarts retail in the shops for £1.10-£1.40 so I usually find ebay the best value for money! Plus most sellers give free shipping so it's easy and cost effective too!
This tart arrived and I always try to see if I can smell anything before I remove it from the pacakging. The packaging was calming-it's a white wax tart with beautiful picture of washing hanging on a line blowing in the wind and it's trimmed with gold. The picture was very relaxing to look at and although I couldn't smell a single thing through the plastic wrapper I know not to judge the candle's strength of scent at this point as sometimes I've noticed this stage is very deceptive!
As with all Yankee tarts the wrapper is hard plastic which immatates the shape of the wax. It's quite thick and needs to be removed with scissors and this is best done over the bin as they will all shed flakes of wax and if it gets on the counter/table etc the second you try to brush it off or wipes it off it sticks and is a real pain. So best to just do it straight over the bin!
Within half an hour of burning the tart was pretty much fully melted and was the first of all the tarts I've tried that was clear! I could see to the bottom of the bowl! I've literally never had a tart that was even remotely clear so I was quite suprised! But boy, it's scent was amazing and I couldn't believe it came from a tart that looked as plain as water when melted!
The best way to describe this scent is to give you a mental image-it's that split second when you open the washing machine after washing some clothes and you get that super clean smell of fabric softner and washing powder/tablets all together. It's the cleanest most comforting smell in the world and I love it because every time I cuddle my son when he has fresh clothes on I get a quick sniff of it! This tart is exactly like that in a very nice way! It's like filling your house with that 'just washed' scent!
I do love the scent but it's not something I would assosciate with a whole house smell! It's nice and very easy to be around and I like that it makes me feel like my house is super clean just from the smell! It's strength is great too, it began to scent the room quickly and evenly and as it began to melt even more the room filled up at the same pace. It wasn't stronger in one area even closest to the tart wasn't stronger than the other side of the room! It also had the power to scent the whole house and could be smelt from the front door and upstairs although not as strongly it was still very noticeable. And a great thing about this tart is that it left it's scent hanging in the air for a good few hours afterwards and not many of the tart varieties have this ability. So even by the evenings when I had moved rooms it was still traceable so I felt this was great value for money!
Yankee say that their wax tarts give approximately 8 hours of scent but I have found this to be a very approximate figure as some give much more and some much less. I was glad to find that I had over 8 hours of strong scent from this one and could still smell it by 12 hours, although only in closer proximity to the burning. In my opinion for it's strength and price it was a very cost effective way of scenting my home!
Overall I give this tart 4 stars, it's a lovely clean scent and I would buy it again although not just at the moment because there are so many varieties out there I would prefer to try first before buying this again. I will deffinately re-purchase though! It's a lovely clean scent and great if you like 'white' smells!
Summary: A good tart from Yankee
