Yankee Candle Clean Cotton Sampler

I have now tried quite a few yankee candle samplers and I have a fairly large stash of samplers to try, one of which was this sampler. I bought this sampler as I thought it would be a similar scent to 'soft blanket' by Yankee Candle which is gorgeous.

- About the product

Each Yankee Candle sampler is 49g each and they come in a range of colours depending on the scent. This candle is a creamy white colour, as the scent is that of cotton. The image on the front of the plastic wrapping the sampler came in is of a back garden and a white picket fence - very American and there is a clothes line on the image. I like that Yankee candle has this packaging as it is quite cute in my opinion and it makes the samplers look like really nice little gifts.

- Scent

The scent of this candle is described as just washed cotton left to dry in the sunshine, I thought it would be a clean, fresh, fairly neutral scent - I also thought that it may smell similar to the 'Soft blanket' sampler, which smells amazing but it does not. Although both 'soft blanket' and 'clean cotton' are fresh, neutral, clean scents. This candle does smell almost exactly like wet washing but in a really good way, it smells so fresh, clean and summery in my opinion - like clothing drying outside in the summer. As a sampler, before it has been burned, it smells fairly strong although no where near as strong as some of the other samplers I have.

- Using the candle (burn time and scent dispersion)

I lit the candle with a normal cooking match and before I lit the candle I trimmed a few millimeters off the top of the wick as on the sticker on the bottom of the wrapping around the candle it has an image of the wick and 0.3cm - so it suggests to cut off 3mm before lighting the candle but I do this anyway. The candle took about half an hour for me to be able to smell the gorgeous cotton fresh scent, which is a bit longer than the other yankee candle samplers have used. The candle looks nice while it is burning, as all candles do in my opinion, as they create a nice warm and cosy atmosphere, which is especially nice at this time of year when it is getting quite cold. After about an hour of the candle burning I can not smell the scent very well, the scent was fairly strong before it was burning but now while it is burning the scent is very subtle and not very noticeable - unless you get close to the candle, which is a bit dangerous and also the scent of the candle should be a lot stronger anyway.

The scent of the candle while it is burned is gorgeous, as described previously, but it is so subtle while it is burning. After a while of being in the same room as one scent you can get used to the scent and not be able to notice it as easily, but even when I go out of the room and then when I go back into the room in which the candle is situated the scent is usually very noticeable - but not with this scent, the scent is very weak and it does not disperse very quickly either, which is really quite disappointing. The burn time for this candle is about nine to ten hours in my opinion. I keep the candle burning neatly (so that one side of the candle is not higher than the other) by letting the wax melt and go right to the edge of the candle so all of the candle melts, this makes the candle burn evenly. Also as I keep my candles on a window sill I keep turning the candle every so often to make the candle burn evenly everywhere as well.

- Price and availability

I bought this candle for about £2.60 from amazon (including postage) which I think is a really good price, especially if you want to try a lot of different scents. The samplers can be bought from ebay, amazon and also yankeedoodle.co.uk, which is a great site in my opinion.

Conclusions

Positives

*Cheap and fairly fairly available
*Burns for a good amount of time - about nine to ten hours
*Scent is gorgeous - fresh, clean and fairly neutral

Negatives

*The scent when the candle is burning is very weak/subtle
*The scent takes a while to disperse
*Scent is not very noticeable at all in sampler form but it may be strong in jar or tumbler form
