I was lucky enough to pick 4 of these up in Downtown, for the bargain price of just 89p each! I am a huge Yankee Candle fan, and votives are probably my favourite way to burn, they give off ample scent, and have an average burn time of 15 hours, meaning you are not committed to one scent for too long! As I had also just placed a rather large order for Yankee Candles (including 12 votives) I decided to get four of these little glass holders, to enable me to "rotate" scents each evening - yes I am probably slightly obsessed! I do have a couple of special edition Yankee Votive holders, but they are themed to occasions, and I wanted a holder which was suitable for any time of the year. These glass Yankee votive holders are made of what seems to be quite thick glass. The votives fit nicely in them, leaving ample space around the sides, and at the top. Of course, as your candle burns down it will fill the gaps in the holder (hope that makes sense!), and in my opinion, they always look better once this has happened. The first thing I noticed about these, was that they tend to gather "soot" on the inside, if you, like me, find yourself having to tilt the glass slightly to light the wick, then the soot caused will show up, and looks quite unsightly. This is easily cleaned once the candle is extinguished and cooled, but for the duration of the burning time, the black marks are very visible. I quickly learnt to solve this by getting a longer lighter, with a push button at the end, making it much easier to light the wick, with the holder & candle still in a perfectly upright position. The second issue was just how hot these glasses get! I would recommend ensuring the candle is completely cool again before trying to move the holder. My mistake was lifting the holder to blow out the flame - it didn't burn my fingers physically, but the heat from the glass was very uncomfortable. These Glass Votive holders do indeed serve there purpose though, and for the price you really cant go wrong. Mine are indeed used exactly as intended, to enable me to rotate my scents. They are perfect for my needs, and suitable for any time of year, just as long as you take care handling them! I am however, looking forward to getting my Yankee Gingerbread Votive holders out - much nicer to look at, and you dont have to touch the glass! A tip for removing the last bit of wax quickly and safely - burn the candle down as much as you can, and once extinguished, carefully but immediately pour the liquid wax into an old yoghurt pot or similar. You should be left with a very small amount in the bottom of the holder. Before this sets completely simply use a plastic knife or similar to scrape this remaining wax out (it really does come out very easily). Now rinse your glass jar in hot (but not boiling) water, and use an old toothbrush or sponge to remove any left over wax residue. Dry, and it is ready for use again! Don't forget to safely dispose of the old wax!
~~~~~~~~~~~~ Free votive holders ~~~~~~~~~~~~ I was constantly reading reviews of Yankee candles on here and as I do like scented candles I of course had to try them out! The first time I ordered online, I bought quite a few different things to try, including lots of wax tarts, and some sampler candles. Now I am not quite sure what the website or the offer was at the time but I received quite a few of these glass votive holders completely free! The ones I received are completely plain, just being made of clear glass and being straight up and down. They are about two inches high, and are the perfect size to drop a tealight into the bottom of giving them a safe and simple place to burn. ~~~~~~~~~~~ No room to move ~~~~~~~~~~~ You can also use these for these for other small candles, such as the Yankee sampler candles, and this is what I always used mine for to begin with. They fit in perfectly with little room for the candle to manoeuvre, but you can place your sampler in this knowing that it is safe and you burn this without having to worry about wax dripping anywhere. However, I did find that once the samplers were finished, it could be tricky to get the last dregs of wax out of the glass holders, however thanks again to this site, I discovered the handy tip of popping the holder into the freezer for a few minutes - the wax then comes out much more easily. You also need to wipe these down inside after use as they can get a few black smudges inside which, as the glass is clear, can show up. As it happens, I soon discovered that I wasn't really a fan of the sampler candles, and I now use this just for tealights and it is a very simple way to create some candlelight in the evenings. I also like to use these outside as you don't have to worry about tealights being blown out because the sides of the votive holder are high enough to protect the flame. ~~~~~~~~~ In summary... ~~~~~~~~~ Overall I don't have any real complaints about these tealight holders - but I have been surprised to see these can retail at £1.99 each on some websites. I've bought sets of coloured votive holders that are more interesting than these to look at, and have had done the job just as well, for less money so I do think they are a bit overpriced. But generally no major complaints, so four stars from me.
I love candles and have tons scattered around my house so I can create the perfect romantic or haunting lighting effects. The Yankee Candle brand has a big fan following here on Dooyoo, and I am a relatively new recruit to the Yankee Candle fan club. I purchased a sampler set of votive candles in all sorts of different fragrances to get a good overview of the brand, and quickly realised that my standard candle holders were no good for using with my Yankee Candle sampler votives. I have tried burning one previously in an ordinary, larger candle holder and the sampler completely lost its shape and puddled away into an un-useable mess. This Yankee Candle Clear Glass Votive Holder is a real essential, and is available from many online retailers including www.amazon.co.uk for the RRP of £1.99. Yankee Candle make a lot of fancy decorative and patterned candle holders for their products, but I was drawn to the minimalist styling of this clear glass votive holder. The design is perfectly plain and I like that it is so simplistic and unfussy. It matches in well regardless of where I want to position it in my home, so I can move it around to wherever I want to use one of my candles. I actually have a couple of these so I can alternate between different scents or use them in several locations around the house at same time. I like that the candle itself shows through the holder, as my Yankee Candle samplers often come in nicely coloured wax and this looks pretty inside the holder. It also makes it easy to tell at a quick glance which specific candle, or type of fragrance, is inside the holder, as most Yanlkee Candles have their own unique shade of coloured wax. Having a proper votive size holder means that the sampler candle slips in neatly and sits close to the sides, which helps it to maintain its structural integrity while burning. The holder measures in at 6.5cm tall and 5cm in diameter so a sampler votive has a perfect fit inside with just enough room to ease it in and no excess room for the wax to start pooling around it. When I use my candles I like to keep them burning for at least 3 hours at a time on each use, so that the wax melts down evenly and I'm not left with wasted leftover bits that get stuck against the edges of the glass holder and won't melt down. There is always a little bit leftover at the end however, as the wick burns out and leaves a small disc of wax at the bottom. This is easy to remove if you pop the glass holder into the freezer for a short time, as the wax contracts and can simply be shaken out of the holder. I would strongly recommend purchasing a specific votive sized candle holder if you intend on using Yankee Candles' sampler sized candles, and this clear glass variety is my favourite as it is simple, stylish and practical.
Recently I have been purchasing a lot of the Yankee Sampler's and I didn't really have anything to put them in when using. I normally order my Yankee product from www.yankeedirect.com and they have a range of accessories on here as well as candles. I browsed the range of miscellaneous items and saw that they do Holders for the samplers. Although they had lots of designs I wasn't worried about getting anything too fancy, so something plain and simple would suit me fine. I found a clear glass holder which was very plain and simple and at £1.99 I thought it was very reasonable value. I purchased this along with some samplers and waited for the products to arrive. I believe you can also purchase this from the Yankee Direct store on eBay for around the same price. The glass holder is made from clear glass and has no design on it so it is very plain. Its 6.5cm tall and 5cm in diameter so can fit a sampler or even tea light in here with no problems. The sampler fit into the holder nicely without being too tight. The sampler is easy to light when in the holder due to the length of the wick that most of the sampler have. As the sampler burns you will get some wax around the edges of the holder from where it has obviously melted. Even when the sampler has burned for a few hours I don't find any problems lighting the sampler again even when it's half way down the holder. The sampler is easy to remove from the holder; how-ever I find it easier to remove when the wax is slightly soft otherwise it can stick to the sides of the holder a little making it harder to remove. If wax does get on the sides of the holder, I simply wipe it with some kitchen towel when it's warm and it comes off easily. As the holder is made from glass it can get quite warm/hot as the sampler burns down so you do need to be careful when handling this. As the holder is made from glass it can be washed in warm soapy water once it's cooled down. I haven't washed mine yet as it's not that messy due to me wiping it whilst the wax is slightly warm still. As the holder is made from glass it does mean the wax comes off the holder quite easily even when it's dry. Although this is a very plain looking holder it looks nice when you have a few of these together or lined along a shelf with samplers in as you can see the colour of the sampler through the glass. In terms of value I can't complain about this product as it's strong and does a great job of holding the samplers. I would recommend this product to others especially if like me you tend to buy samplers more than the candles in the jars or the tumblers. (review also on ciao)
