      Very helpful

Coconut fragranced air freshener from Yankee. Nice but nothing special.

(Please be aware that correct name for these is Coconut Bay, not Baby)

I've bought enough car air fresheners in the past to come to realise that they all end up being pretty much useless after a few days, I've tried liquid gels, stick on's, mini-bottles that attach to air vents and hanging fresheners from Yankee, Jelly Belly and Magic Tree and have yet to find one that has a truly authentic smell and has enough fragrance to last more than a week or so. The closest I came to finding one that I really liked was Sage and Citrus from Yankee but that soon lost its pungency and instead hung limply from my car's rear view mirror acting more like an ornament than anything practical and I've yet to find something that I would want to buy again. That said I do persevere with them, I like my car to smell fresh and clean and for the limited time air fresheners are effective for I do think they're just about worth buying, especially when I can find something on special offer or at a reduced price.

My pack of Coconut Bay fresheners from Yankee were available in a local branch of Collectibles not so long ago, the "3 for 2" pack is the old-style packaging featuring a promotion that Yankee was running a while ago and I paid just under £4.00 for mine. These are the card-fresheners, similar in idea to the Magic Tree ones you can buy but rather than being tree-shaped these are in the style of Yankee's homewarmer jars. They each have a black string of elastic attached to them which is, I have to admit, a little on the short side but they do stretch just enough to enable them to be hung over the rear view mirror in a car. The fresheners are made of cardboard and have fragrance infused into them and the idea behind them is that once they are in place the fragrances waft around the interior of a car thus adding a bit of interest and removing any nasty smells that may be apparent or happen to be lingering. I used to smoke in my car (I don't any more since the arrival of my son) so was aware of the smell of stale smoke, getting fresh air into my car through open windows was always the best way to get rid of the pongs that cigarette smoking caused but it's not always practical to drive around with the windows open and when my car is unoccupied I like to leave something in there which leaves it smelling pleasant.

Coconut Bay is, as you would imagine a Coconut fragrance and even in the plastic wrapper the recognisible fragrance of coconut is apparent. It's not an odour-cutting aroma like Yankee's Sage and Citrus but it is rather nice and puts me in mind of sunnier, exotic climes and unlike Magic Tree cardboard fresheners this one isn't too overpowering when it's first hung. It starts off quite strong but not too cloying and all in all is a perfectly pleasant fragrance to have in a car even if it doesn't last too long. The main problem I find with these cardboard freshers from Yankee is their longevity as the ones I've tried just don't last for very long and after 3 or 4 days they end up having a very faint smell which is barely recognisable. For someone who drives long distances every day or spends a lot of time in their car then they might appreciate these more than the casual driver as for me I never seem to get my monies worth out of them. I only use my car for visiting friends or shopping trips so don't spend that much time in my car, these cardboard freshers are fine for a few days they do inject a bit of interest and can eliminate any dodgy smells but for me they're more miss than hit and I only buy them because I figure than having something in my car has to be better than having nothing.

It stands to reason that anyone considering buying these are going to like the smell of Coconut, it's not a complex fragrance, it simply is what it is and Yankee have done a good job in replicating the smell in these. I'd buy the fragrance again in candle format as I do like it and it does bring to mind Summer holidays abroad but as a car air freshener it's difficult to get too excited over. All in all these are convenient to use, well made and have the quality I'd expect from a Yankee product but they're never going to match the candle equivalent's longevity and I only ever buy them when they're on offer as I do think they are expensive for what they actually are.

I'd recommend Coconut Bay to others but I'm only awarding 3 stars as the fragrance soon goes and you are left with a hanging bit of cardboard. Nice but nothing special I don't think, thanks for reading my review.
