Advantages: Smells lovely, summery, fresh

Disadvantages: slightly old fashioned tone to it

My boyfriend is a real romantic and is always doing lovely things for me. One of the little things he does is to buy me a present every month on the anniversary of our first date. This month, a few days prior to the anniversary, he left a new Yankee Candle tart sitting in the tart burner on my coffee table. From then on, pretty much every time I left the room, he'd replace it with a different fragrance, and then on the actual day he gave me the limited edition royal wedding candle.

The first of the many, many wax tarts he gave me was the country lemonade, which I had been wanting to try for a while, but had restrained myself because I already had quite a few other wax tarts to be used up. Country lemonade is a relatively new fragrance, but I had picked it up in a shop when it was first released and fallen in love. I love citrus fragrances, especially anything smelling of lemon, so I was very excited about trying this.

The idea of a wax tart is that, rather than being a candle with a wick, it is actually a small disc of fragranced wax which is melted in a burner under the flame of a tea light. As you would probably guess from the name, this one is a pale yellow in colour. I like using the tarts because they're much cheaper than the full sized candles, and are a good way of trying out a fragrance before spending money on the larger size.

The scent of this candle is absolutely beautiful. I find with the majority of fragrances Yankee get it spot on, and this is definitely one of them. I don't know how they do it, but this does actually smell of lemonade, rather than just lemons. The sharp lemon scent is counteracted by a sweetness, which gives it that lemonade scent. It's a very summery scent and one that is well suited to the nice weather we've been having lately.

It only took about five minutes of burning before this scent began to fill the room. It was very intense and I thought the scent actually was a lot like sherbet. I was pleased there was no air of cleaning products about this, as there often are with lemon scented products, If I'm totally honest, I didn't like the scent as much when it was burning as I did when it was solid as there seemed to be a slightly strange tone to it. I find it difficult to put my finger on, but whatever it was, I felt it made the fragrance seem a little old fashioned. Despite this, on the whole it was still quite nice and it made the room smell very fresh and clean.

The average burn time for a Yankee tart is 8 hours and I would say that was about accurate for this one. After that time it did lose it's scent.

This fragrance is available in the form of jar candles and votive candles as well as wax tarts, if you don't have a tart burner or would like a larger candle. The following prices are average and the burn times are taken from the Yankee Candle website:

Wax Tarts - Burn time 8 hours - £1.10
Votives - Burn time up to 15 hours - £1.60
Small Jar - Burn time 25-40 hours - £7.45
Medium Jar - Burn time 65-60 hours - £15.45
Large Jar - Burn time 110-150 hours - £18.45

I buy most of my tarts from www.yankeedoodle.co.uk, but they can also be found on the high street in Collectables or Clinton's Cards.

Overall I was very pleased with this fragrance and it was a lovely little gift. The intensity of the fragrance was just right and it smelled summery, fresh and clean. This is definitely a scent I would recommend.

Summary: Another fantastic Yankee scent
