Yankee Candle Fluffy Towels
Advantages: Lovely natural fragrance, comforting and uplifting, permeates room quickly, affordable
Disadvantages: None for me
Fluffy Towels is one of the first fragrances I tried when I purchased my Yankee Candle wax burner last year. Having read so many wonderful reviews of the Yankee range, it took me a while to jump on the bandwagon, but now I am converted and am working my way through the wax tarts I bought alongside my burner.
Without wishing to preach to the converted, a wax tart is a disc which melts in the top of a wax burner to release the fragrance. They tend to be better value than candles and allow you to try the fragrance before investing in one of the more expensive items such as a glass jar candle. I find them incredibly convenient to use, as you simply pop the tart in the burner, light a tealight beneath the burner, and wait for the lovely fragrance to fill your room as the wax tart melts.
I am lucky enough to have an official Yankee shop near where I work, so I could smell the tarts before purchasing. This makes it less of a lucky dip than buying online. The tart came in the usual plastic sealed packaging, which required a knife to remove, and the front has a picture representing the fragrance within, i.e. white fluffy towels.
This is one of my favourite fragrances so far, and I use it regularly to freshen up our living room. The fragrance doesn't take long to start permeating the room, usually within around ten minutes, and it is an incredibly fresh and uplifting fragrance. The best way to describe it is that it reminds me of the smell of laundry, and sometimes I forget it's coming from the burner and think it's the laundry drying on the radiators which is giving off the lovely smell. There's something very comforting about this smell, and it definitely cheers me up, especially as it is such a natural fragrance.
We have a house cat who sleeps in the dining room and although I clean his bedding regularly sometimes I find the room can become a bit musty smelling and reminds me of a teenage boy's bedroom*. I like to use this fragrance to neutralise the smell, and make it feel a bit more inviting. On these occasions, I put the wax burner in the dining room, and open the double doors to the living room. The fragrance wafts through both rooms and the hall, so it makes the entrance to the house much more inviting.
The general guidance is that the wax tarts should last for 8 hours, and I would say this is about right because I split mine into three when I bought it, and have got a couple of evenings use out of each segment. I find if it's left burning all evening it can get a little overwhelming, but this is fine because once you blow out the tealight the tart hardens again, and you can re-use it until it stops giving off any fragrance. I find the smell lasts until the following morning too, so this is a good alternative to using air fresheners as it smells so much more natural.
I paid around £1.20 for this wax tart, which I believe is around the standard price for these. As this is my favourite Yankee Candle fragrance so far, I will definitely be buying this one next time I stock up.
*I would like to add a disclaimer here, by pointing out I don't spend much time in teenage boys' bedrooms, but am simply commenting from experience after growing up with a brother.
