I received this Yankee Candle Fragrance Mixology gift set as a Christmas present from my daughter, who knows how much I love Yankee candles.
Prior to receiving this set, I had never seen these anywhere and therefore it was a lovely surprise gift and I was quite intrigued by its 'Mixology' title.
This Fragrance Mixology gift set contains 6 different Yankee votive candles or samplers, as they are often called, along with a ceramic votive holder moulded in a unique shape to hold 3 votive candles perfectly.
The idea is that you place 3 different votives into the holder and light them all, thus creating your own unique fragrance as the three melt and blend together. This is actually something I had been thinking of trying for sometime, although I was planning to mix some wax tarts together not votives, as wax tarts are what I buy most frequently.
I suppose you could mix any fragrances together that take your fancy, but here in this gift set two 'recipes' are included using the scented votives provided and I was keen to try these out.
The votives included in this gift set are French Lavender, Beachwalk, Pink Sands, Garden Hideaway, Lilac Blossoms and Sweet Honeysuckle. Whilst I had sampled three of these fragrances individually in the past, there were three here I had yet to sample and of course by mixing them together I was going to be creating two new fragrances.
The recipes included were to create two new fragrances, 'Acapulco Bay' and 'Butterfly Garden.' To create the Acapulco Bay fragrance you are advised to place the French Lavender, Beachwalk and Pink Sands votives into the ceramic holder and light the wicks. The remaining three votives, Garden Hideaway, Lilac Blossoms and Sweet Honeysuckle are required to create the Butterfly Garden fragrance.
It was the Butterfly Garden fragrance I decided to create first and after placing the require votives into the holder, I lit the wicks and waited for the fragrance to appear.
It didn't take too long before a floral scent began to appear. I could actually detect individual notes appearing which I really enjoyed, before they blended together after a few minutes to create a sweet floral fragrance. Whilst I enjoyed the fragrance, it was perhaps a little on the sweet side for me. I do prefer spicy or fruity fragrance to floral fragrances in general, but having said that, although this was fairly sweet it was not sickly or overbearing.
I enjoyed creating the Acapulco Bay fragrance more than Butterfly Garden. This one, although still with floral notes, had the added fresh marine notes from the Beachwalk and Pink Sands votives and this created a much fresher fragrance than the Butterfly Garden recipe provided and was my personal favourite of the two.
The votives give up to 15 hours of fragrance and whilst burning them individually may not always provide as strong a scent as melting a wax tart for instance, I found that burning three votives together did actually provide quite a strong fragrance which lasted the entire life of the candles. By burning for around 3 - 4 hours on an evening I enjoyed four nights of fragrance from these votives.
I was also impressed as always, by the quality of Yankee votive candles as they always burn down evenly and all the wax was used, with only a tiny amount left in the bottom when finished. There was no well in the middle of the candle as every one burned evenly and the wax melted together to create these unique fragrances.
I enjoyed blending these votives together and have already purchased another three different votives to create another fragrance. This Mixology gift set is a lovely gift for Yankee candle lovers like myself and whilst I have no idea where my daughter purchased this from, it is currently available from Amazon priced at £14.99 and YankeeCandle.co.uk priced at £14.39.
