Yankee Candle Fruit Salad
Advantages: Strong scent and great price
Disadvantages: Can stick in the back of your throat a little
In the last week or so I have been less adventurous with my Yankee Candles and had been burning scents I've recently reviewed that I liked, rather than trying new ones. So when I cleaned my house from top to bottom I thought I would experiment again and seeing as I have a box full of Yankee Candle tarts to get through I wasn't short of choice!
I thought I would try 'Fruit Salad'. It's got noticeably cooler down here in West Sussex recently and although we still see regular burst of sunshine, there is no disputing the fact that we have had our summer now and here comes the long nights and freezing cold brrr! Being a bit down in the dumps with the frequent rain and wind this week I thought I would try 'Fruit Salad' as I assumed it would be a lovely fruity, summery scent to cheer me up. Hey, even if it wasn't summery outside, there is no reason my house shouldn't be inside!
As with all Yankee Candle wax tarts this one came wrapped in stiff plastic which always needs to be removed with scissors over the bin or sink. This is because the tarts themselves will usually shed a few scatterings of loose wax around and it's difficult to get off your kitchen counter top or table etc. This tarts particular label features all sorts of fruit on cocktail sticks which I actually thought was a really good idea for a snack! Anyway-the label was colourful and bright and matched the lovely warm golden yellow colour of the wax.
When I first removed the tart from it's packaging it smelt very strongly of fruitiness. I couldn't smell one particular fruit, but just an overall fruit scent. It was very nice and although it was strong I know not to judge a tarts scent strength fully until it's begun burning as before it's melted they often give off a very different scent level. I've often been disappointed by tarts that smell strongly before burning and then are very weak whilst in use.
As with most of my tart experience (oo-er!) it usually takes about half an hour for the tarts to melt which was exactly right with this one. However even before it had fully melted it had begun to release a strong scent in to the house. It was divine! Really fruity and stong but not overpowering, just lovely to be surrounded by!
As the time went on I did notice at one point I could see the scent or steam or something coming off the melted wax which I hadn't seen before with others. After this the scent level did get quite overpowering for a shirt while and stuck in the back of my throat for a bit. It wasn't nasty, just strong! But that only last about 20 minutes or so and wasn't to the extreme that I had to blow the candle out.
The scent itself is exactly the title-fruit salad. It's a fruity, sweet smell thats verging on being exotic. You can't pull one element out of the scent, it's not like it features one fruit scent in particular but just overall smells fruity. I suppose a bit like when you get 'tropical' flavoured sweets etc. Also although I feel the scent is fruity and tropical, it's not just the sort of scent I assosicate with summer. I don't feel this scent couldn't be used in winter, it's not that sort of smell so I think it's going to be a great mood lifter in those winter days!
It's scent levels remained strong throughout. It very evenly filled my entire house although it was at it's strongest in the kitchen where burnt. In fact my boyfriend commented that he could smell it strongly outside our flat front door! Although stronger in the kicthen, it's smell didn't disperse and become weaker, or dis-similar in other rooms further away from the burner which I was really pleased with.
Yankee Candle say their tarts have approximately 8 hours of scent in them. I've found this to be a very approximate figure as some have had less and some more. I am pleased to report this one has much more! I had 12 hours of strong scent and a further 4 hours with moderate scent levels before I felt it needed changing. Considering I bought this on ebay for 89p I am really pleased with it's value for money and strength!
The Fruit Salad is from last years range but is still available for purchase. Yankee release new scents each season so I wouldn't give it too long before this one becomes discontinued so if you want to get it for a reasonable price I would advise to get it now before the price rockets. I know I wil deffinately be buying this scent again and again because it really made my house seem summer filled even when it was pouring with rain outside!
Summary: Well worth 89p!
