Advantages: Beautiful authentic aroma
Disadvantages: None for me
Ever since I purchased my first home many years ago I have enjoyed buying products to create a comforting ambience with my choice of scent being dependent upon my mood and the weather. I've been purchasing Yankee Candles for well over 12 years, as the majority of their products meet my expectations as well as offering high quality. I was very fortunate at Christmas as a few of my friends who know me so well, had presented me with some gorgeous candle jars and tarts with this review discussing a fairly new addition to the Yankee Candle range named Garden Hideaway in the wax tart format.
The 22g fluted edged tart measuring 5½ cm in diameter is considerably appealing to the eye and unlike candles, the wax does not contain a wick, as the idea is to place it into the bowl of an oil burner with a lit tea light situated beneath. Garden Hideaway offers an enticing pastel green with a colourful label attached to the upper section where we are presented with an image of a wooden garden bench surrounded by shrubs and pretty flowers. I generally find the images rather eye-catching, but in my opinion, a garden bench is a little dull and uninspiring despite being located in what I presume to be a hidden garden.
The wax tart is tightly shrink wrapped in a fairly thick transparent cellophane and rather than pull at it and risk breaking the delicate wax, I pierce it with the point of a knife and make a small tear so that I can gently rip back the wrapper and carefully remove the tart. As I tend to use rather a lot of wax tarts I am forever spending a fortune, so I generally tend to snap them in half and retain the second piece for a later use, particularly with the stronger scents. Within just a few seconds of placing the piece of wax into my oil burner the burning tea light had transformed it into a pool of pale green liquid, which was the point that the aroma began to waft around my living room.
I was totally smitten with the fragrance, which has been created from natural extracts, as it offers the most stunning scent of garden flowers. Whilst Yankee Candle has not been specific in naming any of the fragrances, I am able to detect sweet pea, which is an aroma I adore and associate with my childhood. Whilst some floral scents can be described as cloying and heavy, Garden Hideaway offers an extremely refreshing blend of beautiful floral aromas, which work together in perfect harmony.
Despite the floral aroma not being overpowering, the scent is quite powerful and transported my mind into my garden on a warm summer's day with the birds singing whilst a warm breeze gently touched my skin. I love the fact that Yankee Candle choose to use natural extracts, as this fragrance most certainly took me back to nature and if I had to use one word to describe the aroma I would use "happy". I strongly believe in using fragrances to create different ambiences in my home and to uplift my spirits, particularly as I suffer with depression and despite the weather being bitterly cold outside, Garden Hideaway whisked me to happy and carefree times.
In addition to fragrancing my living room, the scent was powerful enough to filter into all of the downstairs of my home and despite the windows being tightly closed, it was successful in creating an aromatic country garden in my home. I always burn my wax tarts for periods of up to two hours, which is generally when my larger size tea lights burn out. However, the fragrances delicately lingers for a good few hours afterwards and when walking downstairs in the morning and opening the living room door, the delightful floral aroma is still evidence albeit not so powerful.
Garden Hideaway is the perfect fragrance for capturing nature in your home and it most certainly lifts my spirits during these cold and dark winter evenings. I cannot recommend this fragrance highly enough and for the reasons discussed above, it receives 5 stars from me.
Whilst Garden Hideaway is available in a variety of formats, such as votives and glass candle jars, I prefer to purchase the wax tarts, which cost in the region of £1.25, as they are so affordable.
I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.
