Yankee Candle Home for the Holidays
Advantages: appearance, smell, ambience
Disadvantages: the tart is stronger than the votive
Yankee Candle is an American company offering various candles and home fragrance goodies.
*Home For The Holidays*
Home For The Holidays (lets call it HFTH) is a festive scent from Yankee Candle. It is available in various sized jars, tealights and wax tarts. It is also available in sampler votive form which I will be reviewing.
A sampler is a small votive candle with an internal wick secured to the base with a silver disc. The candle should be placed within a votive holder and lit for a few hours at a time. It should burn evenly for up to 15hours and release the intended scent into the air.
HFTH is a bright red candle which is shrink wrapped. It features a label showing a home all decorated for Christmas. Yankee describe this scent as :
"This luxury Christmas candle blends cinnamon, clove, cedarwood and balsam for the gorgeous aroma of Christmas trees trimmed with spiced cookies"
The votive is 49g in weight. It can be sourced from various websites including www.yankeedoodle.co.uk. It will be priced around £1.60 but may go on offer after Christmas.
I thought as I may aswell review the rest of my Christmas Yankee candles. Home For The Holidays is one I purchased in sampler and tart form. I also purchased a tart for my sister as she wanted a burner for Christmas. It looks festive and smells fairly strongly through the packaging so I was hoping for a treat.
I love burning candles and tarts in my home to give it the perfect ambience. I do prefer to burn a tart in my living room as they are generally stronger though I do burn sampler votives throughout my home. HFTH sampler was placed into my votive holder and burned for a few hours over the course of a few days. I would say this scent is ideal for day or evening burning due to the scents used to create it.
*My Holidays At Home*
On removing the wrapper, the sampler has a slight medicinal scent to it. I lit it and within 15minutes, the scent lifted up from the holder and started to seep around the room. I chose to burn this one in my rather compact bathroom and did notice that it seeped into my hallway but not any further. It was a beautiful scent to burn whilst relaxing in the bath and didn't overpower.. The tart however, filled my livingroom and other rooms with a very powerful scent so you can tell the immediate difference between both candle formats.
As a pool of wax formed around the wick of my sampler, I was met by a lovely aroma. The scent has quite an earthy tone to it which makes me think of real Christmas trees. The medicinal scent was still detectable but was actually quite pleasant and light. I can only assume this was given by the cloves. HFTH contains cinnamon which is common in many of the Yankee Christmas scents. Within this particular scent, it isn't too strong but you can tell it is there adding a delicate, spicy warmth to the scent.
The main scent from this sampler is light and spicy and it is presented well. When sitting closeby the scent, it changes a little and deepens to reveal a scent which resembles spicy cookies - sort of sweetened and freshly baked. It may sound a bit weird that I can smell cookies and Christmas trees but it works and the individual scents come through seperately before merging together to create an all round, welcoming festive scent. I could imagine entering someones home and spotting a fresh tree in the corner and witnessing a festive baking aroma.
It is such a lovely scent which creates the perfect ambience and really is Christmassy. It doesn't smell artificial and is simply gorgeous to burn around my home.
I loved the strength of this sampler as it gave me 14hours or so of consistent scent. It burned down evenly and each time I lit the candle, I was able to witness that beautiful scent once more. It is definelty ideal for burning when you are due guests and and I can recommend it to everyone. The sampler votive is only ideal for smaller homes or rooms but a tart would be great for larger areas.
Recommended - 5 stars!
Summary: a lovely christmassy scent
