Review of Yankee Candle Honey and Spice Wax Tart
Unless you have been living in a box for the past few years, I am sure you will know that Yankee Candle is a popular manufacturer of scented candles, votives, wax tarts, car air fresheners and similar products.
The range is sold in a wide range of store sand shops nowadays. I tend to buy mine either from the local Ponden Mill store or if I happen to be visiting the MacArthur Glen Designer outlet village in Ashford, Kent which is fairly close to us, I often pop in the Yankee Candle Shop to see what bargains I can find, as the prices here are very much lower than elsewhere. I do appreciate of course, that this is sometimes because the scents on offer are 'dated' or old stock.
The subject of this review however was purchased in a large B&Q DIY store, I hadn't realised that they stocked the Yankee range so it was a nice surprise.
==The Honey and Spice Wax Tart==
Wax tarts are not candles at all, they are solid discs of scented and coloured wax designed to be melted in a special tart or oil burner. Unlike some of the oils that are sold to be warmed, you must not add water to the burner as this will cause the wax to spit and splutter. I have burned tarts in an oil burner before but I was lucky enough to be given a proper Yankee Candle Petal tart burner by one of my reviewing friends and I tend to use this all the time now.
A Yankee Candle wax tart weighs approximately 22g and they should burn for around 8 hours. You can of course re-melt your wax tarts over and over, but the fragrance will not be as strong after time.
The picture on the wrapping of this wax tart is of jar of honey, cinnamon sticks, star anise and other spices. The wax is a warm, deep honey brown colour and the fragrance is poetically described by Yankee as 'Golden nectar and sugar cane mingled with cinnamon stick and cocoa'.
I often break my wax tarts prior to burning deliberately in order to get a longer period of the fragrance, however this particular one I melted whole. As always with Yankee Tarts, the wax melted evenly and the scent began to become apparent almost as soon as the wax became warm.
The scent is really lovely, a sweet, warm scent which becomes increasingly spicy as the wax melts. I thought the cinnamon scent definitely came through very strongly and this mixed with the warm, sweet honey element of the fragrance made for a really pleasing effect. I cannot in all honesty say that I could detect the cocoa element of this fragrance though.
I do sometimes find that Yankee's food type fragrances are a little cloying and overpowering for my taste, but, this Honey and Spice scent is in no way sickly, it is a really comforting and warm fragrance which I can detect for ages after the wax has re-set.
The rich spiciness of this fragrance would make it a lovely scent to fragrance your home with over Christmas in my opinion.
**My Thoughts and Conclusion**
I really liked this Yankee Candle fragrance; it is a warm sophisticated kind of scent and it reminds me of my Grandmother's baking days of my childhood. The scent puts me in mind of fresh hot cross buns or toasted tea cakes.
I do not often buy Yankee Candles in the glass jars as they are rather expensive, but Honey and Spice is one that I really would like in the larger, candle jar format. That said I find the wax tarts are an inexpensive way of experimenting with Yankee fragrances, after all if you find you don't like a particular wax tart scent, you have not wasted too much money by trying it.
I do feel that this wax tart would appeal to both men and women; it is not an overly feminine scent as some of the Yankee products can be.
This is a scent that really pleased me; it filled my home with fragrance and was very long lasting. I actually kept re-melting the wax until all the scent was gone, well, I do like to get my money's worth!
I am awarding this Honey and Spice Yankee Candle Wax Tart a 5* rating and would happily recommend it to others.
