Advantages: Lovely fragrance
Disadvantages: Longevity not as good as expected
I was in town having a look around Debenhams last week as they had a promotion offering 20% off. I knew they stocked Yankee candles and decided to take advantage of this promotion and buy some wax tarts. I go through a lot of wax tarts as I am a Yankee addict and so any opportunity to stock up when promotions or sales appear on Yankee products is welcomed by me.
The promotion in Debenhams meant that most wax tarts were only £1.00 each after the discount was applied. The usual price is £1.20 - £1.30 per tart and so whilst not a big reduction, every little helps.
I assumed they would all be the same price as it did not say otherwise, but I discovered on paying for the few tarts I selected that a couple of them were actually reduced and I was charged 75p each for those two. I wish I had realised this before buying as would have bought more, but I was still happy with my purchases.
I took the opportunity to purchase a couple of wax tarts which I know I love, but also three which I had not yet tried and this Honey & Spice wax tart was one of them.
I always like to smell the different wax tarts before buying them and on holding this up to my nose whilst still in its packaging, I could smell a lovely spicy and musky fragrance with a hint of sweetness which I thought must be the honey. It was definitely one which appealed to me and I looked forward to trying it.
Yankee describe Honey & Spice as 'golden nectar and sugar cane mingle with cinnamon stick and cocoa to create this gourmand concoction'.
The tart is a tan coloured wax to match its spice and honey description and has such a lovely scent, I had high hopes for this one.
As the tart began to melt in my burner after I placed a tealight underneath, it was only two or three minutes before the scent began to appear and it was just as lovely as I expected. I could detect the spicy notes first and then it blended with a sweeter sugary scent to create this gorgeous musky fragrance with hints of sugar and spice. Sometimes spicy scents from Yankee can be a little overpowering and have too much cinnamon or clove for my liking, but the cinnamon is just right here and my thoughts were that this time Yankee have created a perfect fragrance with Honey & Spice.
Now Yankee state you can expect to achieve 8 hours of fragrance from one of their wax tarts and I am happy to report that most of the time, I find I exceed these 8 hours and eke out a few more hours of fragrance, as even though the scent weakens, it is usually still enough to create a nice aroma around the room before it disappears altogether.
What surprised me with Honey & Spice however was that although the fragrance was really nice at first, it seemed to be weakening after just 3 hours. Although I could still detect the fragrance I did expect it to remain strong for a while longer. After 6 hours it had weakened considerably and then by 8 hours I could not smell it at all, which was a little disappointing given the longevity of many other wax tarts I have used.
Despite this, I would still purchase Honey & Spice again, but it isn't one of the stronger scented wax tarts and did not give as good longevity as many others.
I think this one will be one I will purchase if I see it on offer at a reduced price. If I am paying full price then I will look to purchase wax tarts which give me the greatest longevity.
It was a shame this one didn't perform quite as I expected, but the fragrance when I could smell it, was really lovely.
I purchased my wax tart from Debenhams, but you can also find these in branches of Clintons and Collectables as well as other department stores. You can also purchase online from Yankee stockists such as www.yankee.co.uk and Amazon.
