Whenever I am in town I like to treat myself to a couple of Yankee Candle Wax Tarts. Priced at 99p - £1.20 they are ideally priced to give yourself a little treat if you're a candle lover like me and also by buying a wax tart or votive sampler candle, you are able to try out the many scented candles Yankee have to offer without paying out a lot of money for their more expensive glass jars only to find you are not keen on the fragrance.
Of course you can smell the fragrance of Yankee's wax tarts through their clear cellophane wrapping and so when standing in a shop which stocks Yankee Candles, it is not unusual to see people smelling the different wax tarts and votives, deciding which ones to buy. Whilst doing this allows you to get a good idea of a particular fragrance, the real scent only becomes apparent however, when you actually use the wax tart, as I find the strength of fragrance varies from candle to candle when it is burning, with some lasting longer than the approx burn time, but others falling somewhat short of it.
I decided the fragrance of 'Drift Away' appealed to me when smelling the wax tart in a branch of Clinton Cards and I purchased one.
This 'Drift Away' wax tart invites you to step away from stress and is said to be inspired by peaceful blue lakes surrounded by green woodlands, with only the sound of birdsong and waves lapping on the shore.
This, coupled with the scenic photograph on the label of a boat travelling down a lake against a mountain backdrop, does indeed conjure up the image of a beautiful scenic relaxing day with the blue coloured wax adding to the calming effect.
These wax tarts can also be used to fragrance drawers and cupboards as an alternative to burning them.
I chose to burn mine and after placing it in my oil burner and lighting a tealight underneath, it only took around five minutes for the wax to melt and the scent began to fill the room.
I would describe 'Drift Away' as one of the more masculine scented Yankee candles, it reminded me of a woody, spicy type of fragrance, maybe not unlike an aftershave. It isn't floral smelling but does have a sweet tinge to it and its woody fragrance is fitting with the scenic photograph on the label.
My favourite Yankee Candle in terms of fragrance is 'Soft Blanket' and I also really like 'Evening Air', both of which are quite masculine also and therefore 'Drift Away' definitely appealed to me and I will be purchasing this one again.
I was also pleased with the longevity of the wax tart. Yankee state you can expect to achieve up to eight hours burn time from a wax tart before the fragrance is lost and whilst some wax tarts have fell short of this time, 'Drift Away' is one that I am pleased to say exceeded the eight hours. Indeed I found I had around ten hours of fragrance from this wax tart before the fragrance disappeared and not only did it fill the downstairs of my house with its fragrance, I could smell it upstairs too. I also found the fragrance lingered in the air for some time after exinguishing the tealight underneath. When burning this wax tart on an evening then going to bed, I found I could still faintly detect the fragrance the next morning which was nice.
Overall, I really enjoyed the fragrance of 'Drift Away' and I will be purchasing this one again. In terms of fragrance and longevity it certainly is value for money.
Yankee wax tarts are available to buy from branches of Clinton Cards and Collectables as well as other card and gift shops, or you can purchase from online Yankee stockists as well as Amazon.
Summary: A woody fragranced wax tart which I will definitely be purchasing again
