Advantages: smell & longevity

Disadvantages: none - if you look for bargain offers

I love candles but tend only to use them in the winter months as I love the flickering, calming effect and you get more benefit in the longer evenings. If any of you have read my reviews you will know I like a bargain but also love luxury items - I would say Yankee candles are a luxury because of the price but have found them cheaper.......
I have seen them on ebay but obviously you have to take into account the postage as they come in glass jars so are heavy.....
Our local Hallmark sell Yankee candles - the smell is a bit overpowering when you walk in which is misleading as a lot of this range have lovely subtle fragrances - sometimes they have offers but I found some at the till - brand new tart wax (rrp over £5)- for 50p - so I made the most of this by buying a few to put away as little gifts. QVC often have special offers especially near Christmas - these are great as you have a 30 day money-back guarantee so if you do not like the smell you've only lost your p&p to return them.
I love the Christmas range - christmas pudding, mulberry and the pine ones really make the house smell seasonal'
The other night I was so busy reading reviews that I forgot I had some chicken in a pan until I smelled the smoke (must get a new battery for the smoke alarm..) the kitchen was full of smoke and the pan was black. I opened all the windows and used the extractor fan but could not get rid of the smell. Then I spied a'clean Cotton' housewarmer Yankee candle so lit it and within an hour the smell of burning had gone. Hubby and youngest daughter came in and knew nothing of my 'accident' - hurray for Yankee Candles !
Can I just add that the lavender ones are very relaxing so if you have had a hard day at work/shopping etc and live in a 'mad house' like me - they are great to light to 'wind down' for the family or take in the bathroom and indulge in a long hot bath....

Summary: the best candles around I think

Ive never known anyone to buy a brand new wax tart at£5! Maybe 5 or 6 would cost that but not a single one. If thats what you're led to believe then someone is definately ripping you off.

Not all scents however are understated and some of the YC candles are strong enough to induce headaches. I still buy them though as there are quite a few nice ones at the moment as well as established ones.

A bit more info would be good here such as the different ranges of candles you can get and what you think about particular strengths. Whats a housewarmer candle for example?
