I'm not really a candle kind of person, so it wasnt surprising that my mother in law decided to buy me one for Christmas. The candle in question was a Yankee Candle, Farmers Market Fruit Cocktail Large Jar 15.5 oz. Upon first appearances I thought I was actually unwrapping a jar of fruit so lifelike are the wax fruits suspended in a clear wax, which appears just like the syrup that fruit cocktail is suspended in. All this is contained in a clear jar with push fit lid which is great to use when the candle is not lit as I usually find candles are dust collectors.

After sitting on the mantle for a week, curiosity got the better of me and I decided to light the candle. Within about ten minutes, a really fruity but light smell filled the room and it was actually really pleasant, not sickly at all like I had imagined. I light the candle every evening now for a few hours and although its nearing the end of January, I would say there is still about a third of the candle left.

The nice thing about this candle is that the wax on the outside of the jar remains there, always giving the impression of a full jar of fruit, while the wick burns a well down the inside. My husband does not understand this concept as he presumes candles are purely for scented purposes rather than for asthetic. He also wonders why anyone would find it attractive to have a jar of gently glowing fruit on the mantlepiece (which I kind of agree with him about). However the candle has grown on me and I like it enough to consider purchasing another one in a different 'flavour'.
