Advantages: Smells lovely, many varieties, attractive jars, mood enhancing
Disadvantages: Quite expensive
I have so far only tried one variety of Yankee Candle, the fresh cut roses one. I bought some sets from QVC at christmas, each came with a small sampler candler, glass votive holder and pot pourri.
The sampler candles are good for trying the different fragrances that Yankee produce, and are reasonably cheap to buy at less than £2 each. The 'proper' candles are increasingly expensive. The varieties include housewarmer jars, which are a candle in a glass jar with glass lid. These come in 3 sizes, small, medium and large. There are also glass tumblers which have a metal lid, this lid can be placed underneat the tumbler as a tray to protect your surfaces. Again these are available in the 3 different sizes.
Yankee now also produce double wicked candles. These are useful, as they tell you to burn your candle until the wax hits the sides of the jar to prevent tunneling. Where this might take 3 hours with one of the large single wick candles, it will take half the time with the double. Convenient if you don't want to burn it for that long.
The best thing about Yankee Candles is the fragrances. They come in many different choices, and each candle has a label with a picture depicting the particular fragrance you've bought. These labels are removable if you prefer the candles without them in terms of your home decor, but I personally think they add to the appeal of the product.
Yankee make candles in different types of scents, floral, fresh and foods with everything from Sun and Sand (smells like popular brand of sun lotion), Clean Cotton (top seller) Baby Powder (yep, just like Johnsons), florals such as Midnight Jasmine or Spring Bouquet, combinations of floral and fruit like Lemon Lavender and mouth watering ones like Blueberry Scone or Vanilla Cupcake.
The scents are gorgeous before you even light the candle, and when you do light it, the fragrance continues to eminate throughout the burn, rather than just at the beginning like you sometimes find with cheaper scented candles. I am definitely hoping to purchase some of the larger ones soon, and they can be found at QVC for pretty decent prices. I am hoping to try some of the new season fragrances such as Cherry Blossom. The pretty pink candles look so tempting!
My fresh cut roses sampler was also pink, and I first tried it while having a relaxing bath. I lit the candle and the room was filled with a slight but noticable aroma of roses. As the samplers are really quite small, I'd imagine the effect using the proper larger size candles would be even better, even more so if using more than one at a time, which you might do if you enjoy the candles for decorative purposes. I think they make a lovely addition to the home as they are very attractive in the way they're presented.
Summary: A great treat to cheer yourself up through the power of fragrance
