Yankee Candle Island Spa
Advantages: Smells lovely and summery
Disadvantages: None for me
Yet another one of my many Yankee Wax Tarts I recently brought was the Island Spa Wax tart, I brought this when I purchased some of my more Christmassy fragranced wax tarts, but saw this one and thought it would be ideal for the summer so I decided to buy one now to try and see what it was like, my plan was that if I really liked it I could purchase a few more for the summer.
The Yankee Candle Island Spa Wax Tart comes in the same packaging as all of the other wax tarts in the range. The tart comes tightly wrapped in a clear plastic wrapper allowing you to see both the shape and colour of the wax tart inside. On the top of the wax tart is the usual small square label, this is mainly a pale blue colour with the words "Yankee Candle" written at the top in white and the fragrance of the wax tart (Island Spa) written at the bottom in black. The rest of the label is taken up with a picture designed to reflect the fragrance of the item, the picture for the Yankee Candle Island Spa Wax Tart is of a tropical island, it shows a beach, palm tree and the clear blue sea and sky giving the impression that this particular wax tart was going to have a definite summery fragrance to it. On the base of the wax tart is a plain white label this contains information such as warnings and also directions for use, however this information is limited due to the size of the label.
What is a Wax Tart?
Most people know that the Yankee Candle Wax Tarts are, however just in case, they are basically a small cake of wax with fluted edges. They look like a small flat candle minus the wick and are designed as room fragrances. You do not have to light the wax tarts but simply melt them in a specially designed burner. The average Yankee Candle Wax Tart has 8 hours burn time, whilst it doesn't actually burn and disappear gradually as a candle does, it will gradually loose its fragrance, it is at this point you need to replace it with a new one.
When I brought this particular Yankee Wax Tart I imagined that it would have a summery fragrance to it, it had a definite citrus fragrance which reminded me of a sort of combination of orange and lemon, this was not sickly sweet, nor did it have an artificial smell to it, the combination of citrus fruits gave it a sharp/crisp smell but at the same time very pleasant. The fragrance was quite strong without being overpowering. When I first tried this I was impressed with how quickly the fragrance filled the room, again the smell was reasonably strong but without being too over the top. The Island Spa wax tart definitely has a summer feel to it, this fragrance would be lovely on a warm summers day to freshen your room, the fragrance was fresh and light a real contrast the wintry fragrances I had recently been using. I really like citrus fragrances so I think that's why the Island Spa appealed to me. Living in an open plan house meant that the fresh fragrance wafted around most rooms in the house and once I had finished using the wax tart I could still smell the citrus fragrance some time afterwards. I'm not sure this fragrance is really ideal for the cold winter months, however I was just trying it out and have to say I really did like the Island Spa fragrance, this will definitely be one of my favourites for the summer months.
How to Use
Using Yankee Candle Wax Tarts is very simply, you do however need either a burner especially for wax tarts or an oil burner. You place the unwrapped wax tart in the dish at the top of the burner and light a tea light underneath it. The heat from the candle will slowly melt the wax tart releasing its fragrance into the room. Once you have finished you just blow out the candle and allow the wax to reset. If you want to use a different wax tart or the fragrance of your current one runs out you do need to slightly re melt the wax in order to remove it from the dish of the burner.
The warnings on the base of the wax tart are quite obvious and include
*Do no leave the lit candle and wax tart in a draught where fabrics can blow onto it
*Do not leave it unattended
*Keep away from pets and children
*Do not burn/ melt in a saucepan over the gas.
I find on a lot of the wax tarts these are shown using pictures and symbols and can sometimes be hard to follow
Price and Availability
The Yankee Candle Island Spa Wax Tart is available in a variety of shops, I brought mine from a local gift shop that sells several Yankee products and it cost me £1.00, you can also buy this product online. The price does vary a little depending on where you purchase it from however from what I have seen the wax tarts are usually sold at around £1.00, on the Yankee website they are a little more expensive at £1.15. I would say that the Yankee Candle Wax Tarts are definitely worth the money you get 8 hours of burn time out of them and they make excellent room fresheners. I also think that the Yankee Candle Wax Tarts are ideal for trying out the different Yankee fragrances, you can test out new ones for very little money before spending a lot of money on the larger Yankee Candles.
Personally I really like the Yankee Candle Island Spa Wax Tart it has a lovely sharp citrus fragrance to it which is strong without being over the top or over powering. I would say this is an ideal fragrance for the summer months, it is fresh and light and gives your house an added summery feel. You would need to like the smell of oranges and lemons if you were to use this particular wax tart which personally I do. In my opinion this is well worth the money, it has a long burn time and the fragrance really does last even after the wax has set. Whilst I probably as a rule wouldn't choose this particular fragrance in the winter months, I would definitely recommend the Island Spa wax tart, as it makes the perfect room freshener for the summer.
Summary: A lovely way to freshen your home
