Yankee Candle Jar Medium Rain Washed Berry
Advantages: Nice fruity fragrance, good quality.
Disadvantages: The scent from the jar not as strong as the wax tart.
I was pleased to discover that Asda have began to stock Yankee candles recently. Although they only seem to stock Yankee's 'Simply Home' range, it is still welcomed by me and I have been stocking up on a few wax tarts whilst doing my shopping.
Not only do they stock the wax tarts and votives, they also stock the jar candles and I was delighted to receive this Rainwashed Berry medium jar candle as a gift recently. I had just been burning the Rainwashed Berry wax tart prior to receving the glass jar candle and so I now have experience of both formats of this lovely fragrance.
Rainwashed Berry is described as a fragrance which will fill your home with an invigorating burst of sweet summer berries blossoming from a rich cherry centre. Yankee state you can enjoy the fresh scent of cool water cascading over just-picked cherries when burning this fragrance. Indeed the deep red wax and berries on the label certainly matches the fragrance within.
I love fruity fragrances and often choose this type of fragrance from the Yankee range. Along with musky, woody scents they are the ones which appeal the most to me.
When I used the Rainwashed Berry wax tart, I placed it into my burner and lit a tealight underneath. As soon as the wax began to melt, a cherry scent began to fill the room. It was a sweet and fruity fragrance blended with a subtle scent of other berries and also I could detect a slight strawberry scent too.
I could smell the scent from my wax tart in my downstairs rooms and it also wafted up the stairs a little too, but wasn't as strong as some other fruity scents from the Yankee range which I have sampled before. The fragrance did hang in the air for a while after I extinguished the tealight or when the tealight had burned out, but again wasn't as strong as some other fragrances I could mention.
In terms of longevity, I am pleased to report that the fragrance released from this wax tart exceeded the eight hours suggested by Yankee, which is often the case and I achieved around 9 hours of fragrance from this wax tart before it began to fade, making my wax tart good value for money.
By buying these wax tarts or the tealights or votive sampler candles from Yankee, it is an inexpensive way to sample the many fragrances Yankee offer, before splashing out on the more expensive glass jar candles and tumblers. I personally prefer buying the wax tarts to the glass jars as I think they represent great value for money.
As I liked the wax tart format, I was happy to receive this medium 14.5oz glass jar version of the Rainwashed Berry fragrance. The jar is an attractive shape with a removable lid, which as soon as I removed it I could smell the berry fragrance before I lit the wick.
This glass jar is said to have a burn time of 65-90 hours which I thought would be exceptional value and wondered if this was correct as I couldn't see it lasting that long. I was proved to be correct as I found in actual fact I achieved around 40 hours burn time, which I was quite happy with to be honest and wondered if the 65-90 hours quoted had in fact been an error.
The wax proved to be good quality just as you would expect from Yankee and it burned evenly down the jar without forming a well down the middle which often happens with cheaper candles. The scent was nice enough, but I found (as always) that when burning a jar candle, the throw of the scent does not seem as strong as when melting a wax tart. Whilst the fragrance was evident in the room whenever the candle was lit, it did not really waft out into the hallway or up the stairs and was not as strong smelling as the wax tart format I had used previously. This is the main reason why I prefer to buy the wax tart formats from Yankee.
I really like Rainwashed Berry and will be buying this fragrance in wax tart format again. I don't think I could be tempted into buying the glass jars but they are very nice to receive as a gift.
Overall I am happy to recommend Rainwashed Berry, particularly if like me, you enjoy fruity fragrances. The wax tarts are priced at £1 at Asda and the medium glass jar is priced at £8. You can also order these online from Asda direct and have them delivered to your local store free of charge ready for you to pick up, if you don't want to pay the home delivery costs.
Summary: A lovely fruity fragrance which I will be buying again.
