Yankee Candle Lavender Vanilla
Advantages: Beautiful scent, strong and powerful
Disadvantages: Not a single one!
My love for Yankee Candles has increased quite a lot recently. If you read my reviews you see I review at least one new scent a week but often it's one every few days. I constantly have one burning in my home as I love to scent my home with beautiful smells and also I like to try new ones all the time.
I recently tried the Yankee Candle Lavender and Vanilla tart. It's from their current range of scents here in the UK so it's quite widely available compared to some of the other scents I've reviewed. You can most commonly track these down on the high street in shops like Clinton's cards etc wehere they will retail for anything between 90p and £1.40 per tart. I buy all on my Yankee Candle tarts online as they are much cheaper and price wise ebay is the best place. I bought this tart on ebay as part of a pick and mix pack of ten tarts which cost me in total £8.95-I didn't even have to pay delivery so each tart worked out at 89p which is very reasonable.
When I buy my tarts because I buy online I have to go by imagination! As I don't have them in front of me to smell I have to assume whether I would be interested in trying them or not. I have to admit I have seen this one about for quite a while but not purchased it because I always assosciate lavender scent's with my grandmother and quite frankly if I'm honest as being quite an old fashioned scent. However a friend told me she had this and loved it so I thought it was worth a go...
When it arrived it was a pastel purple colour and was wrapped in plastic with a very mellow and relaxing picture on the front of lavender and vanilla flowers. I was still very unsure of this tart as the purple colour, the picture of the lavender etc was really making me wonder if this scent was going to be one I liked.
As with always I recommend you remove the plastic wrapper over the bin or sink and use scissors or a knife to do so. This is because if you remove the packaging over a table of worksurface you will regret it! When you take the tart from the packaging it almost always sheds little flakes of wax which are a real pain to get of worktops etc as the second they come in to contact with a cloth they stick fast-especially if it's damp!
At this stage I always like to see what kind of scent I can smell. It was very much like the lavender scent's I'm familiar with, and not a fan of but it was a little softer and more delicate. But I couldn't smell any vanilla at this point but the gentle side of the lavender had clearly been taken away by something so I assumed that was the vanilla.
After about 30 minutes of burning time the tart was fully melted and had turned in to a very deep purple wax in my burner. I can't begin to say how beautiful the scent was that was accompnaying it! Although when I started burning it I noticed the only scent was lavender very quickly the vanilla side began to be released and together the room was filled with a beautiful, comforting scent.
As it continued to burn I was so pleased to note that the scent was very powerful as it quickly spread through the entire house, not just the kicthen where I was burning it. Within an hour you could smell the scent at the same level from the front door on the other side of the house as you could right next to the burner! The tart scent was evely spreading and evenly filling the room and throughout it's duration of being burnt the scent didn't change. Some of the tarts I've tried tend to go between two or more strong elements of the same scent but this one was the same, a lovely floral vanilla smell.
Yankee Candle say their tarts have approximately 8 hours of scent time when burnt. I have found this to be very approximate as some I've tried have been much more and some less. I couldn't belive I got about 16 hours of strong scent from this tart and probably almost another 4 hours before it stopped scenting the room at all. For 89p that is excellent value for money in my opinion!
Because I loved this one so much I burnt it constantly throughout two or so days and I was really disappointed when it ran out. I've often refered to my favourite yankee smell as being Black Cherry but even that scent hasn't made it to a glass jar size purchase but I have to say I am deffinately going to invest in my first glass jar Yankee Candle in this very scent! That is quite an acheivement for me because I'm very loyal to the tarts and considering the jars cost upwards of £25 each it's quite a lot but I am happy to make the exception for this scent!
I give this scent a whopping five stars and my highest recommendation! I hate lavender scents but this totally blew me away, it was gentle and delicate as a scent but it's power level contrasted with that by being strong and powerful and left my whole house smelling beautiful and homely. It's deffinately worth a try if you love Yankee!
