Yankee Candle Macintosh Spice
Advantages: natural, strength, appearance, changing scent
Yankee Candle is an American brand who produce a wide range of fragrance products for your home.
This particular scent is available in various sized jars, votives, tealights and also wax tart form. I will be discussing the wax tart which is a small, tart shaped piece of wax to be placed in a tart burner. A tealight should be lit underneath and as the tart melts, the chosen scent will be lifted into the air. Each tart is said to contain 8 hours of essential oil scent.
Macintosh Spice is a deep red tart. It is shrink wrapped and labelled with a picture of fresh red apples and cinnamon sticks. Yankee describe the scents as :
"Simply Delicious..Crisp, slightly tart apple slices sprinkled with freshly ground cinnamon"
Macintosh Spice wax tart can be bought on Amazon, www.yankeedoodle.co.uk and from local shops. It is available for around £1.00. Jars are priced from around £7.00.
I have sampled various spicy scents from the Yankee Candle range and this is one I have tried recently. I bought mine for 60p during a sale in Clintons which is an absolute bargain. I enjoy creating a cosy atmosphere in my home and love it to smell welcoming - Yankee tarts allow me to do this and I am rarely disappointed with them.
Macintosh Spice appealed to me as I adore apple scents and cinnamon is a true favourite of mine so what better scent to experience than a combination of both? A quick sniff of the wrapped tart and I was hooked as it was very tempting and powerfully scented. I popped the full tart in my burner but you could split the tart and use only a small amount depending on your tastes and the size of your home. I have a large living room and long hallway so like the spicy scents to travel through our flat and fill the whole house.
*All Things Spicy....*
After lighting my tealight, the tart melted quickly and I was able to experience a growing scent within a few moments. The scent intensified and became really overpowering at first. As it filtered around my home, the scent settled to a beautiful level and any other homely scents were abolished. The deep red/purple wax within the burner gives this tart a festive appearance.
The scent of Macintosh Spice is simply divine and Yankee have blended the scents well to offer a full bodied scent. The scent combined with the flicker of the tealight, creates a welcoming, cosy ambience within my home and I was pleased to be treated to this scent whilst relaxing in the front of the television. It may be too powerful for some but it was just right for my own tastes.
I would say that the cinnamon is the most prominent fragrance and adds the warmth and depth to the overall scent. It is very spicy and filters around my home filling every corner with a tempting aroma. What I appreciated about this scent is that the scent alternated. Whilst the cinnamon lingered, the apple added a sweet undertone. After a few moments, the apple would take over offering a vibrant, crisp and sweet aroma. At this point, the cinnamon would slip in and add a warm, spicy undertone. Very natural and at times, rather mouthwatering.
The changing scents meant that Macintosh Spice never lost its vibrancy and never became boring. My nose would pick up one scent and before it had a chance to get too used to it, the scent would change. This really appealed to me and I loved both combinations for different reasons. I do feel that with the apple alternating with the cinnamon, it stopped the scent from becoming too heavy or overpowering.
I was very impressed with this tart. As always I burned it for a few hours on different occasions and the scent remained consistent each time. As the wax turned solid, the spicy scent hung in the air for a good hour or so. I would say I received around 12hours of consistent, flat-filling scent from this particular tart which leads me to say that it is of a high quality and well worth even the £1.00 cost.
I got a bargain and I will be heading back to stock up. This one could be burned in the kitchen to give an alternating food smell as it does smell like real apples and cinnamon - simply delicious and homely.
