Advantages: Lovely woody fragrance.
Disadvantages: Longevity not as expected.
Yankee Candle's Mountain Lodge wax tart was one I received from my daughter at Christmas. Knowing how much I love Yankee's wax tarts, she had bought me a few different ones and placed them in a lovely box for me and I have been slowly working my way through them. My daughter knows which fragrances appeal to me and carefully chose the wax tarts she thought I would like. Indeed when I sniffed the aroma coming from this Mountain Lodge wax tart before I even removed it from its packaging, I knew this would be a scent I would enjoy.
Yankee describe their Mountain Lodge candles as ' A luxurious retreat in front of a cosy hearth, warm with the aroma of cedarwood and sage.'
I love woody and spicy scents and I instantly liked this one. I could detect a strong woody fragrance with a hint of sage seeping through the packaging and the reddish brown coloured wax and photo of mountain scenery taken from a wooden lodge on the packaging, all complemented the fragrance perfectly I thought. This is another fragrance from Yankee which does actually match its name and description and I was very much looking forward to burning it.
I have been pleasantly surprised by the strength of fragrance from wax tarts and I had high hopes for this one. I was confident that this would definitely throw off a strong fragrance and felt pretty sure it would become a favourite of mine.
After placing the wax tart in my burner and lighting a tealight underneath, I sat back and waited for the fragrance to be released. After a few minutes as the wax began to melt in the well of my burner, I began to smell the first woody notes appearing. The fragrance became stronger and the hint of sage was also evident after a few minutes as it slowly filled the room with its masculine woody scent.
I really liked this fragrance, as did my family and I thought again that this would be a favourite of mine for sure.
However, the let down for me came in terms of how long the fragrance actually lasted. Yankee state that a wax tart will provide up to 8 hours worth of fragrance and in most cases based on my experiences with these wax tarts this has been true. Indeed I have experienced over 8 hours of fragrance in some cases and so I was slightly disappointed to find that Mountain Lodge fell short of this, as after 5 hours I noticed the fragrance rapidly beginning to disappear and after 6 hours I could hardly detect any fragrance at all.
I also noticed that the fragrance did not hang in the air very long after extinguishing the tealight either. I have had some lovely experiences with Yankee wax tarts where I have still been able to smell the fragrance in the air the next day for instance, but sadly after an hour of burning Mountain Lodge and extinguishing the tealight, I couldn't detect the fragrance in my room at all an hour or so later, which disappointed me.
Of course by buying Yankee's wax tarts and other 'samplers' such as votives and tealights it gives you an inexpensive opportunity to try the fragrances before spending money on the more expensive glass jars in the range. Whilst I liked the fragrance of Mountain Lodge very much, its longevity I found disappointing when compared to many of the other fragrances available and because of this I can't really say it is a favourite of mine. I would buy this wax tart again, but only if it were in a sale or reduced. Whilst the full price of between 99p - £1.20 may not seem a lot to pay, if you are looking for value for money, there are much better wax tarts available from Yankee than Mountain Lodge in terms of longevity.
Summary: Lovely fragrance, shame it doesn't last very long!
