Advantages: Delivers a powerful Christmassy fragrance
Disadvantages: None for me
Since the beginning of November I have been burning a range of festive scented candles belonging to Glade, Shearer and Yankee. I have a few firm favourites that I will repeatedly purchase and one that I enjoyed burning for the last two Christmases belongs to Yankee Candle and is named Mulled Wine. Whilst this fragrance is available in a variety of formats I own the 22 oz glass jar.
I was introduced to Yankee Candles approximately 14 years ago and since then I have fallen in love with quite a few fragrances, but unfortunately, Yankee tend to discontinue many of their candles, so I will always stock up on my favourites. After burning Mulled Wine during Christmas 2010 I had placed the jar back into a cupboard in readiness for this year and had forgotten how much I enjoyed the fragrance. The jar is beautifully decorated with a colourful image of a shiny silver punch bowl containing a red liquid adorned with floating orange slices. In combination with the collection of filled glasses the appearance of the jar is very eye-catching and creates the magical illusion of Christmas.
As the name would suggest the wax is of a deep red colour and on lifting the glass lid I was greeted with the most stunning aroma, which reminded me why I liked this fragrance so much. The fragrance is very spicy and probably the strongest Christmas Yankee Candle that I've used as my nasal passages are also treated to the delightful and warming aroma of fruit with a delicate hint of clove. I must admit that I am not normally a fan of the aroma of cloves as I often find it a little too strong, but Yankee have perfectly balanced the fragrance.
I had previously burned a quarter of my jar, so was pleased that the majority remained for my use during Christmas 2011. The single wick candle enables the wax to start melting within seconds and it doesn't take too long for the fruit and spices to fill my living room. There is something about this fragrance that I find very uplifting as well as comforting and alongside Yankee's Sparkling Snow this is one of my favourites. You need to be a fan of strong fragrances to enjoy Mulled Wine, as some people may find the aroma slightly overpowering, but the intensity of the fragrance is perfect for me and even my husband has stated that he likes this candle.
As will the entire range of Yankee Candle jars the wax burns evenly, so there is no waste. Yankee claim that the 22 oz jars will deliver 110 - 150 hours of fragrance although I cannot admit to ever keeping a record. However, my jars seem to last a long period of time especially with me burning them for 2 - 3 hours on each occasion. What I adore about this range of candles is that the scent does not reduce the more the wax is burned, so I am able to enjoy the strong fruity and spicy fragrance until the very end. As the fragrance is so strong it lingers in my living room for a good while after I've distinguished the wick, so it offers great value for money.
Mulled Wine can be obtained from all good Yankee retailers although stocks may now be limited as the Christmas range is now generally discounted. I visited the House of Frasier a couple of days ago and spotted a number of formats of Mulled Wine where they were all displayed with a 50% off sticker. At normal price you can expect to pay around £1.10 for a wax tart, £1.75 for a sampler, £7.49 for a 3.7 oz jar, £15.45 for a 14.5 oz jar and £18.45 for a 22 oz jar. However, it is very rare that I pay full price as I always seek out the special offers.
This is an adorable fragrance and as a result receives 5 stars from me together with a huge recommendation.
I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.
Summary: One of my favourite festive Yankee Candles
