Christmas is coming (in case you haven't noticed!) and it's time to start thinking about making the house a bit festive. Although I don't like to put the tree up until about mid December, my daughters' wooden advent calendars come out on the 1st and with them I like to put out a few small decorative items too. One new thing this year is my Yankee Candle Night Before Christmas votive holder.
I bought this delightful holder a while ago through Zeto, an Amazon seller, for £7.95 and £1.75 extra for postage and packing. It arrived well packaged and undamaged a few days later. It is a very sweet Christmas decoration that stands about 8 cm tall. It has a delightful little mouse dressed in a nightshirt and long stripey nightcap and striped socks. He has a whimsical look on his face and is stood on a notepad with a pencil, as tall as he is, in his hand. He has just started writing a letter but has only got as far as 'Dear Santa'. Next to this little figurine is what looks like a brass pot, with a little sprig of holly, containing the glass votive holder. It is a very cute object and when my daughters first saw it, they were really thrilled.
It doesn't say what the figurine is made out of but it is quite light and sturdy. There is also an instruction to not wash it. As everything is attached, this is a bit of a pain, as I would like to be able to wash the glass votive holder at times. However, I find that wiping it with a damp cloth manages to keep it fairly clean. As with all candle holders, it does get hot so you do need to be very careful when picking it up after use and definitely keep away from young children or warn them to be very careful.
When it has a candle in and is lit, it is advised to place it on a protected heat resistant surface. This is really essential as the votive holder is quite low within the little pot and as it does get very hot, it could easily damage a good surface. Obviously, it is intended for use with Yankee candles, but I use any votives and I have discovered that Tesco sell some reasonably priced ones. When the candle is lit and is shimmering away inside the glass it really does look very pretty. It is quite a small object overall though so could be a bit lost as a centrepiece. However, since I bought it, I have realised that it is actually part of the Yankee Candle festive accessory collection of which there are lots of lovely items to choose from. I think that if I bought a couple more it would form a lovely part of a trio of candle decorations.
I really love this little festive votive holder. It is very well made and there is excellent attention to detail. It looks beautiful both lit and unlit and is definitely helping me start to get in the festive spirit!
