~Paradise Spice~
'An exotic island treasure..perfectly ripe banana and creamy vanilla, unexpectedly spiced with prized cinnamon and cloves'.
Paradise Spice is a new addition to the Yankee Candle range and is part of a collection of scents which relate to faraway shores. This particular scent can be experienced in different formats depending on your preference and budget. The housewarmer jars are longer lasting but carry a high price tag. If you simply want to try out the scent before spending a lot of money, I would recommend the votive sampler or wax tart. I will be reviewing the latter.
A wax tart is a disc of solid wax which has been infused with natural extracts of scent. Paradise Spice is a pale, creamy yellow coloured tart. It is presented in a tight, clear wrapper and the label on the front illustrates bananas and spices. The tart should be melted in an appropriate tart burner with a tealight underneath. It can be reused and should offer at least 8 hours of scent.
~Price and Availability~
Expect to pay around £1.25 for a 22g wax tart. As this is a new release, it is likely available from your local Yankee stockist. It can also be purchased online from the official Yankee website, Amazon and www.yankeescents4.com.
~My Thoughts~
I love trying new Yankee scents and recently restocked my Yankee box with a load of new wax tarts. As well as buying some of my favourite scents, I also bought all of the newly released scents and this review discusses my use of Paradise Spice.
Given the description of this scent, I was really looking forward to trying this one. I love melting wax tarts as a way of fragrancing my home. I currently have two tart burners - a regular burner and an electric burner. I opted to melt this wax tart in my livingroom so made use of my regular tart burner on this occasion.
Unwrapping this wax tart, I was immediately impressed with the gorgeous scent I could detect. This tart smells like no other in the Yankee range which makes it quite unique in my opinion. The tart started to melt quickly forming a pool of delicious smelling wax. Paradise Spice has a pleasant strength. The uplifting scent from my tart burner filtered up and around my livingroom and was also noticeable in the kitchen, hallway and in a lighter way in our bedroom. The scent isn't overpowering but does overtake homely odours in our flat.
Paradise Spice is a very mixed scent and it will be one that you either like or don't like in my opinion. I am personally a fan of all the different scents within this scent and they actually blend together to offer a really unique scent. As the tart melts, the ripe banana and vanilla blend comes through and is quite fresh, light and sweet. After a short while, the scent changes and the cinnamon and cloves become stronger. The scent changes from a light scent to a much warmer, homely scent. The spicy notes add depth to the scent and the entire combination reminds me of spicy banana bread. It is a very foody, moreish scent and is very addictive. It fills my home with a fresh baked, sweet and rich aroma which is absolutely amazing.
Personally I find Paradise Spice to be most suited to a cold Winters evening as it has the power to warm up any room. I loved the way the different notes came through and mixed together. If sitting very close to the tart burner, I notice the clove aroma is strongest and quite medicinal. I found it useful to do this when I had a sniffly cold as it greatly helped.
~Conclusion~
I think it is fair to say that I absolutely love this scent. It is a pleasure to have melting in the background whilst relaxing on a cold evening. I chose to melt this for a few hours at a time over the course of four days and experienced around 10hours of noticeable scent from this tart. The spiciness of this scent lingers for an hour or so after the tealight has gone out and I have found this wax tart to be excellent value for money all round.
Highly recommended :)
Summary: a beautiful baking aroma
