Yankee Candle Petal Bowl Wax Tart Burner
Advantages: Simple design, Good quality materials used, Cheap and widely available
Disadvantages: The cream bowl does discolour and lighting a tea light can be a bit fiddly.
The Petal burner is a Yankee branded product and comes packaged in a cardboard box, it's a two piece set with the petal-shaped bowl being removable from the black ornate stand it is designed to sit on. I chose the cream bowl although other more garish colours were available which wouldn't have matched my living room's colour scheme so I quickly dismissed them and chose the most neutral colour on offer. The black metal stand has 4 ornately shaped risers which hold the bowl above a gap where a tea light sits nicely in place and although not terribly heavy both pieces look and feel of good quality with the ceramic bowl in particular being a nice thickness with smooth edges and an inoffensive appearance. I don't think it's particularly feminine in design, it doesn't take up too much room either in height or width and sits well on the glass plate I bought for to stand it on either in place on my mantelpiece or coffee table depending on what wax tart I'm melting at the time. The bowl is of a good depth so that a wax tart is fully enclosed from the bottom and sides and can be melted safely without ever spilling over the edges and unless you knocked it over both the stand and bowl sit firmly in place on any surface it is placed on.
I like the appearance of the both the stand and the bowl, the simple design fits well in my living room and other than a couple of minor niggles I have no real complaints with it whatsoever. I do think it's a little bit fiddly to place a tea light in the centre of the base as there isn't much of a gap to reach through the risers and even though I have fairly big hands I wouldn't say they were massive, I've found that there isn't really an easy way to light a tea light once it's in place unless I use a long-handled candle lighter (which is probably the best idea and is my top-tip here) as cigarette lighters and matches have to be held at an angle to reach the wick and can be a little on the awkward side. This isn't too much of a drawback though and certainly wouldn't be a reason not to buy the burner but worth mentioning here all the same. The other issue I have with mine is that the inside of the bowl has discoloured slightly and no amount of washing with hot soapy water seems to be able to lift the discolouration, it's not too much of a concern but mine no longer looks new and again worth taking into consideration should the cream one be the colour choice that anyone else makes. Other than that though the burner does exactly what it was designed for and I've used mine daily for coming up to 6 months now so it's had plenty of use and has allowed me to melt my way through dozens of wax tarts.
I think for the price it costs to buy the Petal burner is a bargain, some more ornate burners can cost twice and triple the price of this one and if you're only looking for something simple that should fit into any decor then it's certainly one to consider. It is available in a few colour choices and is widely available with both amazon and eBay stocking them online and on the high street from candle stockists. It's not quite a five star product for me due to the bowl's discolouration over time and how tricky it can be to light a tea light but four stars seems fair so that's what I'm awarding. Definitely recommended though to anyone either looking to start melting wax tarts for the first time and are looking for an inexpensive tart burner or for more serious Yankee enthusiasts who are looking for an additional or replacement burner, for a penny under a fiver I don't think that anyone would find much to complain about with this one and I'm very happy with mine.
Thanks for reading my review.
