Advantages: Great strength, smells quite nice, fruity with a bit of zing
Disadvantages: A bit too sweet for me, slightly artificial
I started to get into Yankee Candles a few months ago after reading all the positive reviews about them, and this scent Pink Dragonfruit is one which I decided to get when ordering a few from eBay because the reviews had made it sound really nice.
I'm sure most people reading are familiar with Yankee Candles, but if not then they come in different sizes from small wax tarts costing around £1 to £1.20 up to much more expensive jar candles. I bought this as a wax tart. The tarts are just round discs of wax with no wick and they must be burned in a wax burner or oil burner by lighting an unscented tea light underneath. They are supposed to provide around 8 hours of scent.
The pink dragonfruit tart is unsurprisingly pink in colour. I could smell the scent somewhat even through the plastic wrapping so I was looking forward to trying it. Once I started to burn it, I was a little unsure about the scent. It started to melt within a few minutes and the scent could clearly be detected. It seems very very sweet but with a slight tangy edge to it. Without this little zing to balance it I think the tart would be far too sickly, and even as it is, it is slightly too sweet for my taste. It seemed to smell a little bit artificial, reminding me a bit of laundry detergents or similar! However, that sounds really negative but I don't completely dislike this tart. It's a good job I don't hate the scent as its strength is quite good, and once it has been burning for a while it fills my kitchen diner (I usually burn my tarts at the dining room table) and spreads out into the hall way and I can also detect it, but more subtly, in my room. The scent lingers for a good few hours after burning. I really like the scent it leaves behind after an hour or so as it is subtle and fresh. I burned this for a while yesterday then went out and when I came back as I was pleased with the fragrance that was still lingering as I had forgotten all about it.
I have to admit I didn't know what dragonfruit smelled like so I wasn't too sure what to expect from this, but I think my expectations were more along the lines of pink grapefruits as I remember people had said it was tangy. That is probably why I was a bit iffy to start, as I was shocked at the sweetness. Now that I have got used to it it has grown on me, though it is still not my favourite as I seem to prefer deeper, spicier ones in general. I think this is more of a summer scent as it has that sweet, fruity slightly exotic and tropical atmosphere to it.
If you like sweet and fruity tarts you might love it, but for me it was one which is just okay, quite nice when I'm in the mood for it, but definitely not my favourite.
