Yankee Candle Pink Sands
Advantages: Gorgeous smell, long lasting, cheap.
Disadvantages: None at all.
I love candles and have a full drawer dedicated to the passion. I had always looked longingly at Yankee but never actually purchased any until I was introduced to a sale where they were selling wax tarts and votive candles for silly cheap prices and I bought this "Pink Sands" wax tart for just 80p along with a range of other scents however as I have this burning at the moment I thought I'd review it.
*~* Cost And Availibilty *~*
I found this particular scent both instore and online in a variety of forms:
Wax Tart (8 hour duration, 90p/£1.05 each)
Votive candle (15 hour duration, average price £1.75)
Lidded glass tumbler (35-45 hours duration, £8.99)
Small housewarmer jar candle (25-40 hours duration, £7.99)
Medium housewarmer jar candle (60-75 hours duration, £13.99)
Large housewarmer jar candle (100-150 hours duration, £17.99)
These prices are standard but during sales these can be found much cheaper. I paid just 60p for my votive candle. There are also a couple of websites you can purchase from, both www.yankee.co.uk and also www.yankeedoodle.co.uk have them available. As well as various stores, I personally have seen them in Clintons Cards so plenty of options.
*~* Packaging *~*
The wax tarts come almost like a cupcake case with the fluted edge and the narrow bottom fanning out to the wider top although the depth is around half a centimetre thick. The whole tart is wrapped in shrink wrapped plastic that is easy enough to remove with a sticker on the top detailing the name of the product and a sticker on the bottom detailing safety information while burning.
*~* The Tart Itself *~*
This has a very plain, pale, clean look to it with a pale pink colour. Once the film is removed there really isn't anything to distinguish it from the other white tarts Yankee offer. As this is a tart it does not have a wick but is a plain disk of wax which requires being placed within a tart burner and a tealight placed underneath to melt the was and release the fragrance.
The thing I like about the tarts is that they can be blended together with other fragrances to make your own aroma which is definitely a positive.
It is easy enough to break off just a section of the wax tart, I have 2 burners one holds the full tart but the other I found wax dripped all down the sides and into the underneath section which holds the tealight and generally created a big mess so when using this burner I use just half of the tart. I found it easy enough to break off and the only stipulation I found by doing this was that the scent wasn't as strong as when I used the full tart which is to be expected. I always find that I get much more than the recommended 8 hours of burn time. I only just got rid of one of the other tarts which had around 16 hours of burn time. I did find that the scent was a little less powerful than it had been to start with and it didn't travel as much but it was definitely detectable so these are incredible value for money.
*~* The Smell *~*
I found that even just having a sniff of the tart there was a strong scent delivered much more so once unwrapped. When walking past the unit where I keep my burner without burning I could still smell this tart albeit faintly but still there. This has notes of citrus, spicy vanilla and sweet florals. I can definitely detect the florals and the citrus notes with the spicy vanilla slightly in the background. Altogether they blend to make a very exotic scent that does have a spice to it. It's definitely a spring/summer fragrance that is a bit feminine I find.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that this fragranced my home very well and rather strongly. It is not sweet or sickly more very fresh and summery feeling. I feel that this would be perfect in the winter when you crave the outdoors but it is just not possible to get out there in the sunshine.
I definitely noticed that the smell lasted a decent amount of time even after the tart was no longer burning which again is a plus. I would recommend this to people who enjoy fresh spring and summery scents. I'm not entirely sure why it's called "Pink Sands" but then again none of the names seem to make much sense.
*~* My Overall Opinion *~*
I love this tart, it is very summery and floral perfect for burning on summers evenings or in the winter when you want that feeling of the outdoors. I don't think it creates that 'exotic destination' scent it aims to, more a country British garden but however. It has a long burn time and really is pretty cheap. It is a well known brand that I know personally I can trust. These are widely available and the best thing about this is that when you purchase from Yankee online you earn decent loyalty points to spend on items of your choice!
Summary: A great wax tart to give a go.
