Yankee Candle Red Berry & Cedar
Advantages: Lovely fruity and woody fragrance, good longevity.
Disadvantages: Not one of the strongest fragrances but still lasts reasonably well.
When out shopping recently I noticed there was 15% off everything in my local branch of Collectables and as they stock Yankee candles I decided to stock up on some wax tarts. They are usually priced at £1.20 each in Collectables, so this meant they would be £1.02 each with the discount.
There is always a huge range of Yankee candles in Collectables, but added to this at the moment is a large range of 'Christmas' scented candles and I decided to buy some from this collection.
After wandering around sniffing at a few, I decided upon which ones to buy and this Red Berry & Cedar wax tart was one of my choices.
There were quite a few that I was attracted to, but also some that I didn't like the smell of at all. I don't mind cinnamon, pine or other spicy fragrances but some of them were very strong with one or two reminding me of toilet duck and oil of cloves, so I gave those ones a wide berth!
Red Berry & Cedar looks very festive with its deep red wax and picture of red berries on the packaging. The fragrance is meant to smell of red currants and warm cedarwood and I would certainly describe the scent as fruity berries with a woody tinge. Indeed I found the fragrance very appealing and was looking forward to trying it.
The fragrance was quite strong with this wax tart, even before I had removed the wrapping and usually this is a good indicator of the longevity of the fragrance, with the stronger scented ones lasting the longest. Therefore I did think I would achieve the 8 hours burning time stated by Yankee with this one and maybe perhaps a little more, as this often happens with some of the stronger smelling wax tarts.
After placing it in my burner and lighting a tealight underneath, it was only a couple of minutes before I detected the scent of berries beginning to appear as the wax melted.
Quite a lot of the Yankee fragrances I prefer are quite masculine fragrances, often reminding me of aftershaves, which I really don't mind, but what I particularly found appealing about this one is that the woody scent is definitely masculine, but the scent of the berries adds a fruity twist to the fragrance.
The fragrance from my wax tart as it began to melt was fairly strong at first and the fragrance filled the room within a few minutes.
Whilst it isn't the strongest fragrance I have experienced from Yankee, its longevity after extinguishing the tealight was impressive as the scent hung in the air for quite some time.
I also achieved the 'up to 8 hours' of fragrance you can expect to achieve from burning a wax tart, although I did notice the scent began to weaken after around 6 hours of burning tealights. I found after 3 evenings of burning tealights for around 2 hours at a time, the fragrance was definitely weakening and by the 4th evening it had just about gone. This isn't a complaint as it really gave me more or less what is promised, but maybe I have been a little spoilt by some of the other fragrances which last longer. However, having also bought some which have been fairly poor in terms of longevity, then this one is definitely one of the better ones and is one I shall purchase again.
Red Berry & Cedar is an ideal festive fragrance to burn over the winter period and is just one of a large range of Christmas candles from Yankee.
By buying a wax tart or a votive from Yankee you are also getting the chance to sample the fragrance and see if you like it before buying the more expensive scented glass jars. The usual price of the wax tarts vary between 99p - £1.20 and they are available to buy online from Yankee outlets as well as Amazon and also from card and gift retailers such as Clintons.
Summary: An ideal fragrance for the festive period and winter evenings.
