Yankee Candle originated in the USA. They specialise in offer gorgeous, scented candles and other treats for the home.
~Red Velvet~
Red Velvet is an Autumn 2012 release from Yankee alongside Chamomile Tea, Blissful Autumn and Honey and Spice. Like other Yankee scents on offer, it is available in various formats including housewarmer jars, tumblers, wax tarts and samplers. For the purpose of this review, I will be discussing the wax tart.
The Red Velvet wax tart is a beautiful red colour and is shrink wrapped. The label adorning the packaging illustrates a delicious looking cupcake, piled high with creamy frosting. A wax tart, for those unfamiliar with Yankee Candle, is a disc of scented wax. It should be melted in an appropriate tart burner. A 22g tart is said to offer at least 8 hours of scent and a tart can be re-used until the scent disappears.
Yankee Candle describe Red Velvet as...
'A most decadent creation of creamy frosting atop moist cake and a touch of brown sugar. So very sweet!'
~Price and Availability~
With this being a new release, this tart is widely available from Yankee stockists. Expect to pay around £1.00-£1.25 per tart. Stockists include eBay, www.yankeescents4.com and www.yankeecandle.co.uk.
~My Thoughts~
I recently replenished my stock box of Yankee wax tarts and purchased several including all 4 of the new Autumn scents. I adore Yankee Candle and the tarts are my preferred method of sampling the various scents they have to offer. I usually bulk buy and pick my own selection.
I was excited about trying out Red Velvet the most so when my delivery arrived, I decided that this would be my first conquest. I melt wax tarts most evenings and occasionally during the day. I chose to melt Red Velvet in the evening. I removed the tart from its wrapper and took a moment to indulge in the delicious, solid wax in my hand. I could tell that this would be a winner with myself - a sweet addict. Within 10 minutes of lighting the first tealight, the tart had melted to form a pool of festive looking red wax.
~Sweet Treats!~
I absolutely adore sweet scents and Red Velvet was no exception. Yankee have tried to capture the delights of a red velvet cake (or cupcake) with this scent and I am pleased to confirm that they have done a fantastic job at creating this delicious, authentic scent! The initial scent of Red Velvet (before it starts to melt), reminds me of Vanilla Cupcake and Christmas Cookie that Yankee also offer. As it melts, it reveals its own characteristics which make it highly appealing.
Red Velvet is beautifully layered and has the perfect strength. The strength builds up for the first 30 minutes or so and gradually floats around my living room and out in to the hallway. My fiance could detect the scent, albeit in a subtler way, in our bedroom. The scent evens itself out and hangs in the air without being overpowering or sickly in any way. The scent remains consistent whilst in melted form and is noticeable for an hour or so after the tealight goes out.
If you love sweet scents around your home then this is definitely for you! I am currently on a diet so have to get my cupcake fix some how - Yankee to the rescue! Perfectly cakey and moist, Red Velvet offers a little bit of scent heaven. It brings that fresh baked, cupcake aroma to the living area and is tantalisingly fragrant without the calories. The overiding scent is the general cupcake aroma but it is joined with a whisper of cocoa powder and decandently topped with a rich, creamy vanilla frosting which is to die for.
The overall scent is in no way synthetic at all and is such a homely, flavoursome aroma which never fails to make me smile - it is a feelgood aroma but very cosy and inviting. If I sit near to my tart burner, I can detect the brown sugar and does add a generous depth to the scent. The brown sugar also sets Red Velvet apart from the other cakey scents that Yankee offer.
~Conclusion~
Overall, I witnessed around 12 hours of mouthwatering aroma from my wax tart. I was very impressed with the quality and general aroma of the scent. It does give my home a warm and inviting ambience which I appreciate and is well worth the cost. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the wax tart and I plan on purchasing the housewarmer jar soon.
Thanks for reading :)
Summary: a gorgeous new release!
