I first started buying Yankee wax tarts around November of last year after reading so many positive reviews on sites such as this, and found myself wanting to purchase some of the delicious scents that were increasingly cropping up in reviews. After buying myself a wax tart burner I then started to purchase wax tarts as frequently as once a week, and having found some reputable online stores on Ebay I purchase whenever I have any funds sitting in my paypal account. I recently bought a mixed bundle of different scented tarts and was greatly looking forward to seeing which had been chosen for me as it was a 'mystery' bundle but as it was free P&P and you got 2 wax tarts free then I wasn't too concerned as to which would be sent as I'd ordered similar sets previously and on the whole been very happy with the choices.
In amongst my bundle was this - Sicilian Lemon - which my review will now focus on.
**How Yankee describe this**
"..A bright and sunny citrus... perfectly ripe, with a naturally sweet and refreshing scent.."
**My experience of using this product**
Yankee wax tarts are reasonably priced in my opinion and if bought singularly they can be picked up from as little as 90p to around £1.30 depending on where you choose to shop. As mentioned I prefer to buy mine online but they can be purchased from several outlets with the most commonest places being card and gift shops. There is a Hallmark factory card shop close to my home which sporadically sells older stock from as little as 60p per wax tart so it's worth sourcing out these sort of places as it's an ideal time to then stock up.
The wax tart comes presented in a transparent sealed cellophane wrapper as do all the Yankee branded wax tarts and features on the top a sticker depicting an image to match the scent. In this instance the picture is that of some lemons which are freshly cut and because of the clearness of the wrapper we can see that the wax tart itself is a coordinating warm sunshiny yellow.
On first seeing this particular fragrance in the bundle I was pleasantly surprised at how sweet it came across as as I presumed it to just have a citrus based aroma. On opening and releasing from the wrapper though the citrus took over and was very dominant, though in a crisp and fresh way and I was looking forward to burning it later that day.
As mentioned before in similar natured reviews I live in a small cottage all based on one floor and I tend to keep my burner situated in my kitchen as it's less likely to cause anyone any harm there and also my kitchen is my most central room in the layout of my house.
I normally break my wax tarts into two pieces to burn on separate occasions but I liked the scent of this so much that I placed the entire 22g wax disc into the pot of my burner and proceeded to light the tea light that was directly beneath. Within a few minutes the rich, luscious lemon aroma started to filter through and grew in intensity as the wax started to melt. I'm not really a fan of citrus based scents and probably wouldn't have gone out of my way to purchase this on its own but after the wax tart started melting and giving out it's delicious crisp aroma I was really glad that this had been included in my bundle.
I left the wax tart to melt and even replaced the tea light with another lit one as the scent Sicilian Lemon offered was clean, fresh and crisp and not overpowering like some fragrances and I was enjoying the ambience it was creating in my home.
I would highly recommend this fragrance of wax tart as I'm not a citrus fan of anything generally speaking but was very pleasantly surprised with how wonderfully comforting this was. The lemon has just the right amount of crispness without it being too tart but there is also a sweeter note that adds softness which ends up making it a well balanced fragrance. Longevity wise I found this gave around the approximate 8 hours it promises though obviously the longer it melts for the lesser the strength over time.
I really loved how this scented my home and will definitely buy this particular fragranced tart again in the nearby future as even when the tea light candle had been extinguished the lemon scent hung in the air for at least 2 hours afterwards. I also found that I could burn this for a number of hours without it being nauseating or causing headaches like some other fragrances can. Because of the clean lemon scent it was perfect for helping to eliminate cooking odours from my kitchen and overall it was just a very pleasant scent to have wafting through each room.
Impressed. 5/5.
Summary: A lovely crisp scent
