Yankee Candle Simply Home Pineapple Palm
Advantages: Burst of fragrance
Disadvantages: You only get two uses maximum per tart so they could work out expensive if you used them everyday
~~~ History ~~~
Let me tell you a little of the story behind Yankee Candles. Almost half a century ago, a boy melted his childhood crayons to make a candle to make his mother a gift. She was overjoyed and showed a neighbour what he had done. This neighbour asked to buy it and placed orders for further candles and so Yankee Candles was born.
Since then, they have expanded into different types of home candles and fragrancing, moving with the times. They have since branched out further and the item from this review comes from the 'Simply Home' range.
~~~ Tart ~~~
The star of this review is a Tart, A circular disc of highly fragranced wax, which is instantly recognisable by its fluted edges. Saying that though, you usually smell them before you can see them. The fragrance is so intoxicating. Upon opening the plastic coating you will notice that the words 'Yankee Candle' embossed into the flat top, denoting it's long heritage. This is not true to all Simply Home tarts though, as this is the first fragrance I've noticed it upon.
Pineapple Palm is my tartlet of choice at the moment. These have no wick to light, and instead are melted using a tart burner with a lit candle underneath. You could use a non-Yankee branded oil burner, but please make sure that the well at the top is deep, as when this melts, they give a surprising amount of wax, and it's at the point that the wax melts that it releases its wonderful aroma's.
I am not loyal to any particular scent from Yankee, and tend to fluctuate between the delicate and the stronger scents that Yankee supply. The choice is vast and I can always find something that will suit my mood.
~~~ Pineapple Palm ~~~
Pineapple Palm melts quickly and transforms into a transparent green liquid. The scent starts to waft and fill the room with a zingy, summery scent, and it isn't long before it fills the house. I prefer these tarts as the 'throw' of the scent is so much quicker than that of a candle, and longer lasting too I feel. This is a much more natural scent than those artificial chemically smelling air fresheners, but more suited to day time burning than a candle.
The fragrance isn't strong but mouth wateringly fruity, sweet and intoxicating. You can smell not only fresh pineapple, but also a warming hint of coconut, and as such, this reminds me of cocktails and holidays. Whilst today is overcast being the end of September, I have been burning this today, to try and keep hold of those memories of lazy, hazy, summer days, and banish the cold.
These tarts usually cost just over one pound, so if you see them cheaper, snap them up, they're a bargain. I purchased mine from Asda with my weekly shop, but they also sell the simply home range at B&Q, and Home Bargains on occasion.
~~~ Burning Times ~~~
Yankee/Simply Home tarts burn for around eight hours; that is not to say, at eight hours and one minute they give up their scenting properties, it's just that it fades gently until it's not recognisable anymore.
You don't even have to use the whole tart in one go if you don't want to. I tend to break mine in half and use the remainder on separate occasion, making them more economical, or you could even mix up your own combinations of fragrances. The tarts can be broken quite easily, as the tart is formed from compressed tiny beads of wax, although I have noticed that the simply home ones are slightly more compressed and compacted; and need a little extra pressure to break.
~~~ In Summary ~~~
I am passionate about all the varieties of Yankee Candle/Simply Home products, but my favourite are the tarts. Pineapple Palm fragrance is a wonderfully fresh, zesty and uplifting scent and I wholly recommend it, perfect for a balmy summer day, but it's extremely good on a dismal September day too. :)
Many thanks for reading my review. I hope this has been of some use to you.
