When it came to opening my Christmas presents last year, I had an inkling as to what to expect. I had previously mentioned to my husband that I would love a new Yankee candle and so imagine my surprise when I opened not one but two large jar candles as part of the Yankee Christmas range of fragrances. One of the candles within my pair was this Sparkling Cinnamon option and this had a lovely red glow which gave a Christmas feel in my opinion.
Once removed from its box, this candle is quite large in size and houses 623g of candle with an average burn time of between 110 to 150 hours. My candle is presented in a large glass jar which looks almost like an old fashioned sweet jar and this is quite sturdy in construction with a round glass lid which pulls off to access the candle. On the front of my jar is a picture of some cinnamon sticks dusted with a sprinkling of snow and these are accompanied by some white snowflakes. The overall look is one of ultimate festivity and one which lends itself fully to the build up to Christmas. Therefore although I was pleased to receive this candle as a gift I was a touch disappointed that it was so limited in the time of year this candle could be displayed.
The candle itself is a lovely deep red in colour and this glows through the body of the jar giving an almost jewel like look. I was keen to sample the smell of this candle when I received it and therefore wasted no time in removing the glass lid and breathing in the cinnamon fragrance. Cinnamon is a scent that I do associate with the States and this candle smells very deeply of cinnamon with the rich and sweet smell that I associate with this spice.
To burn this candle is really quite easy and safe to do and this is done by removing the glass lid and lighting the thick white wick. The jar gives sufficient room to place your hand inside and light the wick however, as the candle burns down I do find that a long match is a necessity to reach the shorter wick. Once lit, the wick burns with a steady flame and the sides of the jar prevent the flame from jumping and flickering thus ensuring that the wax burns down in a steady sequence rather than pooling in the middle around the wick. Once the flame is burning, the fragrance beings to spread throughout the room meaning that within 20 minutes or so the room has the sweet smell of cinnamon.
In my opinion this is a nice candle and one which smells exactly as its name might suggest. I like the quality of this candle and the way in which it comes housed in such a lovely glass jar plus the safety feature of a removable glass lid always gives me peace of mind when there is molten wax to be spilled. The only criticism of this candle which I have is that the smell, though nice at first, quickly becomes overbearing and the strong cinnamon scent really dominates the room giving me a slight headache. As a result I have moved mine into the bathroom where it can be used for short bursts of candle light rather than burning constantly.
This jar candle is currently sold out on the Yankee candle website however it can be purchased through such websites as Amazon for £19.99. Whilst this may seem expensive for a candle, when you consider the amount of burn time you get with one of these jars it really is quite good value for money, if you love the smell of cinnamon.
This is a good candle which would be great for lovers of cinnamon, however as I have found it quite overbearing in scent I have to mark this one down one star for headache value.
I hope this review has been of some help and thanks for reading! x
