Yankee Candle Strawberry Buttercream
Advantages: Lovely inoffensive scent, neither too rich nor too fruity, great for early spring or late winter
Disadvantages: Might be a bit sweet for high summer but that's what they invented Fruit Fusion for....
They say everyone deserves a second chance. So, after a previously happy relationship, I have decided to try to forget Yankee trying to scent-blast the back of my throat with the appalling Apple & Pine Needle wax tart and Mr Rarr and I have updated our collection of tarts.
One amongst our new batch - to keep the house smelling welcoming we always try to keep some wax tarts in stock - was Strawberry & Buttercream. This little fluted tart comes in a plain white wax and smells gently sweet and charming through the cellophane, and is currently having its first outing in our home as I type this.
***WHAT'S IT LIKE?***
Mr Rarr just unwrapped this new addition to our lives and instantly noticed how sweet the scent is when truly unleashed from its plastic prison. Creamy to a degree and with a hint of berry freshness but the overriding scent was a sweet, cloying one. Still, Yankee know they're in the last-chance saloon with me so let's give it some time to melt and see how we get on.
I shall update this review later...this is breaking news reviewing, people.
***INSERT SUBTITLE HERE.....A LITTLE WHILE LATER...***
I'm surprised. We are about an hour in and both Mr Rarr and I have been pottering about online doing "online errands" - emails, photos etc. Me trying not to fall asleep on the sofa after commuting to London earlier. Then suddenly I walk back into the living room and realise how nice it smells, as Mr Rarr says "I like this one!".
Strawberry & Buttercream has redeemed the Yankee standing in this house. It is sweet, yes, but balanced with a gentle, full-bodied, slightly creamy but not overbearing base note. There is a hint of fruitiness which helps cut through the creaminess, and whilst this is very, very relaxing - just what I need - as well as welcoming, mellow and subtle.
When I have that "oh, yeah" moment and remember I put a scent on, I do notice the strawberry. It is quite natural and subtle so whilst it counters the creaminess, it doesn't blow you away like it might when added to some "invigorating" shower products - to me this is a really nice balance.
I can imagine this suiting a lot of people - it is completely inoffensive, not overly sweet or creamy or fruity. It is pleasant and would suit young females, families, entertaining, pretty much the range. I of course do not count the "bloke sector" who would like Yankee to crack the elusive "Steak & Ale Pie" fragrance, but if they ever do that then I'll be in line before any guy...
***SO THAT'S DAY ONE...***
Day two of burning this, and as we are both off work again this has been on for some time. I would say this does become slightly more subtle but is still very noticeable and definitely lives up the standard approximate eight hours that Yankee tarts are meant to provide you with.
Overall, I love this tart and would definitely put it on the list of favourites that I will buy again. Whilst in summer I would go for a zesty, purely fruity scent, this is a great one for winter and even early spring when there is freshness in the air, which I think would be lovely when you can leave the windows open and get fresh air going through the house for the first time after a cold winter, with this for comforting, slightly zesty and gentle scent.
A really nice scent from Yankee, not an absolute favourite that I can't live without but really relaxing and enjoyable.
Summary: Gorgeous, welcoming scent to bring into your home - another Yankee winner!
