---Why I Bought This---
Well in fact I never had to buy this as I was given it as a Birthday present a few years ago by my niece.
Yankee candles are a famous USA brand which has been going since the late 1960s.
Yankee are well known for selling large jar candles, small votive candles, tarts and also attractive jar shades, plates and candle holders. They also now do car air fresheners as well.
Thick china shade sit on a Yankee Jar Candle.
It is 4.5 inches tall, the base is 6.5 inches across and the hole in the top is around 3 inches.
Thick and heavy.
It has a cream background with a ring of wooden shelves along its base on which rests flower pots, trailing ivy and three large baskets of flowers.
One of these baskets of flowers contains pink, white and blue tulips which gives the design its name.
There is a blue band top and bottom.
Also on the shelf is a blue and green checked cloth which tes the decoration in with that on the atching base tray which is sold separately.
On the underside is a stamp which reads:
Made for Yankee Cande Company.
There is also a sticker which describes it as 'Tulips Lg Shade, made in China'.
I know my niece bought this for a local family run department store and although this design does not appear on the offical Yankee website it can be purchased online from Ebay.
I would expect to pay around £15.
My niece gave e this as a gift along with the matching tray and a large jar candle.
I was very surprised to begin with as she had wrapped them all up separately so I was a bit confused to unwrap frst the shade (what was it?) and then the tray.
However once I had found the jar candle it all became evident.
The plate, or tray as it is properly called, is very heavy and well made.
I can undestand why my niece picked this pattern as it was not for the tulips but for all the trailing ivy as she knows I collect ivy china and items which have ivy designs.
The pattern of flowers on the shade is very raised and contoured very well painted - I believe all these plates and shades are hand finished.
Definitely a product of quality and one you would be happy to give as a gift to anyone.
Mine is almost as good as new and has been on display and used with lit candle jars. It is discoloured and black inside because of course it sits on top of the lit jar candle for the smoke to escape through its top. My shade has a tiny chip on its underside now as one of our cats tried to get up the chimney and kicked it over - luckily it does not show but they also smashed my large jar candle at the same time - the glass of the jar smashed easily but this must be strong and only had a tiny chip, which was lucky for me.
Although called the 'Tulip' pattern it is not just tulips - which do not feature at all on the tray and only incidentaly on the accompanying shade.
This is not a requirement when using jar candles but using the tray and shade does finish off the candle nicely and it looks attractive on display even when not being used and lit.
The attractive floral scheme would fit in with lots of different decors.
