Yankee Candle Vanilla Cupcake
Advantages: Smells delicious
Disadvantages: None at all for me
*Please note that this review focuses on my experience of the mini housewarmer jar version though there will be references to the use of the wax tart as well*
I've been a fan of scented candles for as long as I can remember and ever since reading about the US company Yankee Candle Co on such review sites as this I've been buying their products almost exclusively. I purchased my first wax tart burner just a little over a year ago and since then have been solely buying wax tarts to fragrance my home as I prefer the format, think they are stronger than votives and also can be bought around the £1 mark making them excellent value for money and ideal to test out a new fragrance with. Because of my 'obsession' with just buying wax tarts I've overlooked fragranced candles and forgotten just how much I admire a flickering flame to accompany the aroma, so when I received one as a free gift a few weeks ago I wasted no time in burning it.
"...Yankee Candle Vanilla Cupcake Small Jar- The rich, creamy aroma of vanilla cupcakes with hints of lemon and lots of buttery icing..."
Vanilla Cupcake is available in various formats including wax tarts, votives and housewarming jars to name a few. I have owned and used all formats of this particular fragrance but for reviewing purposes it is the small housewarming jar version that I will be referring to as it's the one that I have just finished up burning in it's entirety so feel I can justify a review. As I mentioned above I tend to stick to buying wax tarts these days as I find they are cheap enough to purchase a few at a time as opposed to the glass jars which tend to be rather expensive but was I impressed enough by this format to be swayed in the future to buy them?
Price wise Yankee products can vary greatly depending on where you choose to buy them, though after perusing several sites online I see that the smallest jar which I own (104g/ 3.7 oz) seems to retail at anything between £7 and £9 so it's worth looking around.
The candle itself comes presented in a very attractive glass jar. The glass jar only looks thin but is far sturdier than it's appearance and is actually quite thick - something that always concerns me when using glass encased candles as I have visions of them cracking. As far as designs go this is basic but aesthetically pleasing all the same with the jar being of a 'stubby' shape and veering in at the neck where a large 'stopper' of a lid is offered. The jar is completely transparent so we can see the wax of the enclosed candle quite clearly, in this case the colouring is a warm and comforting beige/ yellow. As with all Yankee branded products there is usually an image on the packaging which depicts the fragrance and in this case a
rather delicious looking vanilla cupcake greets us making it very apt according to the fragrance.
I received the smallest of jars a few weeks ago when I placed an order with my catalogue Littlewoods. I didn't realise it at the time but they had just started stocking them and as an introduction to people unaware of the delights of the Yankee brand if you spent over a certain amount in one single order on anything (£25 I believe) they would send you a free mini glass jar. It didn't state which fragrance would be sent at the time of placing my order but nevertheless I was excited as I was ordering the Skylanders video game for my sons for Christmas, so knew that my order would take me over the required minimum spend to receive my free gift. When the Skylanders game arrived I was disappointed at first to see in the packaging no candle and no mention either, however a day later a small package arrived and on unwrapping I was extremely pleased to see the candle sent was one of my all time favourite Yankee scents - Vanilla Cupcake.
On removing the lid I was met with the most sumptuous vanilla aroma that literally made my mouth water and I couldn't wait to start burning it so eagerly placed it in my kitchen. As I've stated many times in similar reviews my kitchen is the most central room of my small one floor cottage so an aroma from wax tarts/ candles etc equally distributes to my other rooms. The safety feature of it also being on my window sill means it's less likely to get knocked or set fire to anything as it's out of reach of anything other than the glass window pane.
I found that the wick was very easy to light and whilst it does state to trim down I only needed to do this the once and by a small amount at that. Once the wick took alight it wasted no time in burning down fast enough to make the wax melt and this was within literally minutes. The wax created a liquid circular pool rapidly and the fragrance made itself very known by intensifying much more than when the wax was solid.
The aroma given off by the candle is simply divine and whilst vanilla plays a key part the overall fragrance is one that reminds me of oatmeal cookies more than anything. I've tried various different vanilla fragranced candles/ wax tarts recently and I have to say that this is my absolute favourite up to press. The vanilla is far more subtle than I expected but has enough depth to really make itself known and creates an instant welcoming ambience in the home the second the wick is lit.
Longevity wise I have been extremely impressed with this mini housewarmer jar as it has far outlived it's promised 25 to 40 hours worth of fragrance. I've lit this candle each day on my arrival home from the school run pick up at around 4pm and extinguished the flame at around 10pm each night since it's arrival and have had at least 50 hours worth of burning time making it extremely good value (if bought) and very economical in the long run as the fragrance never once waned.
Would I recommend this? I would highly recommend any format of vanilla cupcake as it's such a warm and welcoming scent that it's hard to find fault at all with it. It has a wholesome, 'family' scent to it that just gives off the most amazing aroma. I've found the mini housewarmer jar to smell just as strong as the wax tart format and will look into buying the larger jar in the near future as it has such a rich and homely scent to it and knowing how long the mini version has lasted has given me faith to buy a larger jar at some point.
I simply love the warm buttery aroma that is very much noticeable with this candle and think it is one of Yankee's finest as it has such an authentic fragrance and smells like the real mccoy making it an obvious choice for me when buying Yankee scented products in the future.
Highly recommended and if not a fan of vanilla don't be put off as the warm melt in the mouth buttery aroma dominates far more!
Summary: A beautiful rich buttery aroma from Yankee
