Yankee Candles - 'Peace' set of 3 individual candles

I've read many a review on this site about Yankee Candles and often thought to myself that they seemed to be an expensive waste of money. After all you can buy scented candles from Glade and Airwick for a fraction of the price of Yankee and I assumed that they were all pretty much the same. My wife has always liked to burn a candle, especially during the winter months and we tend to go through quite a few of these at this time of the year, so as a Christmas stocking filler I decided to take the plunge and buy some Yankee Candles to see what the fuss was all about.

I actually made two purchases, one for the set I'm reviewing here (Violet & Lemongrass - Peace set) and a separate order of the Yankee selection pack direct from their website (which I will review at another time) The Peace set as illustrated above has three individual candles held in their own glass container and I selected these as they are described as being able to "stimulate a calm, centred feeling" and having the "proven restoratitive powers of Aromatherapy" Thinking that these would be nice to burn whilst having a well earned rest after Christmas I bought into the claims and paid a reasonable £8.99 for the set.

The candles themselves as you can see are a light blue colour and contain violet leaf and lemongrass oil, once first lit I can't say I particularly noticed a strong scent but after 10 minutes or so there was definitely an aroma coming from the candle. To me the scent was quite 'soapy' and smelled very fresh and invigorating, I can't say I'm particularly au fait with the smell of violet leaves or lemongrass anyway so had no expectations as to what the smell would be like but these were light and pleasant and certainly filled the room with aroma.

The best thing to me about these candles was the fact that they actually burnt down the container evenly, normally cheaper candles tend to burn straight down the middle leaving remaining wax at round the side which is an obvious waste. These burned from the top and by the time reached the bottom (approximately 15 hours later over the course of a few days) there was only the metal wick holder remaining. Considering that the pack of three I bought for just under £9.00 makes each candle approximately £3.00 this represented excellent value for money and put the other branded candles I mentioned in my opening paragraph to shame.

I can safely say that I am a convert now to Yankee Candles, this Peace set has now all been burnt away, but we are left with the other candles I ordered in the bumper pack to move onto next. I still consider them to be expensive, but certainly not a waste of money. The amount of burning time plus the full, fresh aromas combined with the fact that there is no waste of wax means that I would certainly buy these and other products from the range again.

I picked up my 'Peace' set in Boots just before Christmas and they are available online at www.just-candles.net and other places for the same price I paid. I do recommend this set, whilst I don't necessarily buy into the claims of Aromatherapy both myself and my wife did enjoy the scent of these candles and would certainly buy them again.

5/5 Dooyoo stars from me and definitely recommended.

      Thanks for reading.
