I recently purchased some sampler candles from the Yankee Direct website and I noticed that this particular scent to the Yankee range was new so I decided to purchase it to see what it was like. This new scent was introduced in spring this year so not many people will have tried this one yet. This particular scent has the sweet glow of exotic juicy melons with a touch of sweet orange oil which is the perfect scent to wake up to during the spring and summer morning. The sampler is an orangey/yellow colour and is wrapped individually in plastic. On the front of the plastic is a label stating what scent the sampler is. I'm not really sure what the picture on the label is supposed to be but it looks a bit like an exotic flower or something. On the bottom of the sampler is a round label which shows you diagrams of where you should/shouldn't place the sample. I actually have a glass votive holder for the samplers so I put the sampler in here and then on a wooden desk in my bedroom away from draughts or electrical items. I really like some of the fruity fragrances in the Yankee range so I was looking forwards to trying this one. The total burning time for the sampler is 15hrs which is quite good.

Using the Sampler

I unwrapped the sampler which was easily done once cutting a small hole in the plastic so I could peel it off. I smelt the sampler before lighting and it smelt lovely. It smelt really fruity and delicious. I could definitely smell the slight hint of orange. It smelt so fruity and also very citrusy. I was hoping that the scent from the sampler would fill the room as it was lovely. I lit the candle with a lighter which was easy to do as the wick was a nice length. I then sat back on my bed and put a film on to watch. The sampler released a very light citrus fragrance; how-ever this didn't seem to get any stronger despite having it burning for over an hour. I had to leave the room for about 15mins (my boyfriend was in the room), and I thought I might smell the scent when I walked back in. I could smell it, but again it was a very light citrus scent. The smell of the sampler didn't really fill the room either which was also disappointing as this was a gorgeous scent. After a good few hours the scent of the sampler hadn't got any stronger which I was really disappointed by. I blew the sampler out and didn't expect any scent of the sampler to linger. I could smell a slight citrus smell after the sampler had been blown out but it didn't last for very long and by the time I woke up in the morning I couldn't really smell anything at all.

Overall Opinion

As soon as I unwrapped the sampler and smelt it I couldn't wait to light it as it smelt lovely and reminded me a little of summer due to the citrus and slight orange scent it had to it. I was very disappointed with the lack of scent that the sampler gave off having lit it and having had it burning for at least an hour. I was also quite surprised at this as the scent of the sampler was so strong when smelling it before it had even been lit. This is the type of scent that I would love to fill the room as it's very fresh and fruity. I will finish using the sampler and enjoy the slight scent it does give off. Maybe I would have more luck with this scent if I purchased the wax tart or larger sized candle. As the scent is a lovely scent I would purchase the wax tart to try to see if the scent this gives off is any stronger. Unfortunately I can't rate this too highly as it just didn't give off enough scent for me.
