“ Brand: Yankee Candle / Type: Scented Candle / Category: Home Fragrance „
Warm Woollen Mittens is a candle from Yankee's limited edition 'My Favourite Things' collection, based on lines from the song of the same name. Other fragrances available are Raindrops on Roses, Crisp Apple Strudel and Bright Copper Kettles, as well as a few others. You will be pleased to know they drew the line at making a Whiskers on Kittens fragrance!
I first came across this range in the Collectables store in the Metro Centre. After taking the lids off and sniffing each in the range, the clear winner for me was Warm Woollen Mittens. At the time, we were in the process of purchasing our first house and I couldn't justify the cost of yet another candle. I would normally purchase the wax tart or votive version of a Yankee scent, but these ones are only available in the large jar format - otherwise you will need to buy as part of a gift set. Much to my delight, my lovely fiancé purchased this as one of my Christmas gifts, so I did get to try it after all.
The candle comes presented in Yankee's famous 'housewarmer' jar style. These are like old fashioned sweet jars, with chunky glass lids. The wax of the candle is brown and the front depicts a child in a woollen hat and gloves holding their hands out in the snow. I do wonder why Yankee chose to make this in brown. Sometimes, a colour choice is obvious - you would expect a strawberry candle to be red and a lemon candle to be yellow for example - but surely 'warm woollen mittens' could be any colour, so why dull brown? I personally would have gone for a pale blue perhaps, instead of brown. The only reasoning I can think of, is that with the neutral colour might fit in with more people's décor, so perhaps they thought it would appeal to more people?
The smell of this candle is lovely. It is one of Yankee's 'clean' scents and is smells just like freshly washed laundry. I have always preferred these clean and neutral scents, with my favourite ever Yankee Candles being Sunwashed Linen and Egyptian Cotton, both of which have sadly been discontinued. These scents were both similar to Yankee's bestselling fragrance, Clean Cotton, but stronger in intensity. Similarly Warm Woollen Mittens is a fairly strong fragrance and what makes it different is that it has a slight sweetness to it and just a teeny hint of floral, which makes it smell a little like talcum powder mixed with fabric softener. If you want a fresh, clean smelling home, then I think this candle would be a good choice.
When it came to burning the candle for the first time, I found that the fragrance filled the room really quickly. It was a nice intensity and lingered subtly in the background, rather than slapping you in the face, so to speak. I burned this in my living room when I initially got it, but have since moved it upstairs as I think it's a lovely scent to have burning in the bedroom during the daytime and the scent lingers until the evening when I go to bed.
With the jars, it is best to leave them burn until the wax has melted to the edge, that way the next time you use the candle it won't tunnel down leaving a ring of wax around the outside. The large jar candle has an estimated burn time of 110-150 hours, so you do get a lot of use from it for your money. I obviously have not been counting how many hours it's been burning, but it does burn slowly and evenly, so I am hoping it'll last a good while longer yet.
This candle costs on average £16.99, so not particularly cheap. It is a beautiful fragrance though and of course has a long burn time. Buy it from Collectables on the high street or try www.scentedcandleshop.com online.
Overall I am very pleased with this candle. It smells gorgeous and is lasting well. It's a shame they don't make this range in more formats, as I would have preferred to have tried it out as a wax tart or votive just to make sure I liked the scent first, but otherwise, I can't really complain. If you like 'clean' scents, then Warm Woollen Mittens would be a good choice.
