Review of Yankee Candle White Chocolate Mint Pot Pourri Wax Tart
Yankee Candle is a popular manufacturer of scented candles, votives, wax tarts, car air fresheners and similar products. The range seems to be sold in a wide range of stores and shops nowadays.
We have a MacArthur Glen Designer outlet village fairly close to us and I find a visit to the Yankee Candle shop within the shopping complex a true delight, not just for the amazing scents that permeate the store, but the bargains to be had here. The prices here seem to be very much lower than elsewhere. I do appreciate of course, that this is sometimes because the scents on offer are 'dated', out of season, are slightly damaged or just old stock.
On a recent visit to the designer outlet, I bought bargain bag of 8 mixed wax tarts for just £5 and I was delighted to find this fragrance was among them.
**The White Chocolate Mint Pot Pourri Wax Tart**
Wax tarts are not candles at all, they are solid discs of scented and coloured wax designed to be melted in a special tart or oil burner. Wax tarts are an easy and effective method of scenting your home and I consider them to be very versatile, as they lend themselves to mixing and experimenting with scents. I have often broken the fluted wax discs in order to make them last that little bit longer.
Yankee Candle wax tarts weigh 22g and they should burn for around 8 hours. You could of course re-melt your wax tarts, but the fragrance will not be as strong after time. Yankee Candle Wax tarts generally cost in the region of £1-£1.25 each and they are an excellent way to try a Yankee fragrance, as they are considerably cheaper than the glass jar candles.
This wax tart is a pure white in colour and the fragrance is described by Yankee as 'Buttery sweet white chocolate with a hint of vanilla and cool peppermint.'
I found that the White Chocolate Mint wax tart melted evenly and although the scent was a little slower to make itself apparent than other fragrances I have tried, it was lovely. The scent is a very sweet one and the mint aroma blended well with the sweet, white chocolate fragrance. It is fairly strong, without being overpowering. I have to say that I cannot in all honestly say that I could distinguish the vanilla element in this scent.
The fragrance is fairly long lasting and the wax was easily removed from my burner once I had finished with it. At the time of melting this particular tart, I must admit that I did not own a 'Yankee' branded burner and used a simple oil burner that I bought from a rival company. One of my lovely 'reviewing' friends however has since made me a gift of a Yankee Petal burner and I am finding the melted wax from tarts is more easily removed from this than from my cheap burner.
**My Thoughts and Conclusion**
I really liked this Yankee Candle fragrance; it is a warm sweet scent, which is a homely, comforting type of fragrance. I burned this wax tart in my lounge, we live in a bungalow and I found that I could detect the scent all over the house.
I suppose this could be described as a rather feminine scent, even though it is not a girly, floral fragrance, but I am sure the fragrance could be enjoyed equally by men.
As I liked this tart very much, I have looked for it since but have not been able to find it locally. I feel another trip to MacArthur Glen may be in order!
I am awarding this Yankee Candle Wax Tart a 5* rating and would happily recommend it to others.

~White Chocolate Mint~
'Melt into pure bliss...buttery sweet white chocolate with a hint of vanilla and cool peppermint'.
White Chocolate Mint is a USA exclusive scent offered by Yankee Candle. Within the UK, there is availability of the large housewarmer jar and the wax tarts. I will be reviewing the latter.
A wax tart is a disc of solid wax which has been infused with natural extracts. You need to melt it in a tart burner and can reuse the tart until all the scent is gone. Yankee Candle say that each tart offers at least 8 hours of scent.
This particular wax tart is white in colour. It is presented well - a clear, tightly wrapped piece of plastic protects the wax tart. The label on the front illustrates delicious sweet treats.
~Price and Availability~
A 22g tart is available from www.yankeescents4.com and eBay priced at around £1.65.
I adore Yankee Candle and favour their wax tarts as they offer an inexpensive way of trying the different scents. I own two tart burners and melt wax tarts daily to enhance the clean feeling of my home and leave it fragranced and welcoming to any guests that may visit. I enjoy trying out the USA exclusive scents and my last splurge resulted in me owning White Chocolate Mint. I bought this one as I had remembered another reviewer (brittle) had written a positive review of this tart.
Unwrapped this pure white tart, I was able to witness a pleasant peppermint scent. I popped a whole tart in my burner and it quickly melted to form a pool of clear liquid. This scent does take a short while to pick up pace. Within 30 minutes or so, a wave of cool, refreshing aroma had started to flow from the burner bowl and filter around my livingroom. I found this scent to be the perfect air cleanser as it removes odours and most rooms in my home smelling clean and fresh - just like opening the windows but without the cold breeze!
Whilst the uplifting peppermint aroma was evident around my home, the other notes were a little more subtle and only lingered in my livingroom. Whilst I didn't expect the mint aroma to be the strongest element, the scent is quite well balanced. The white chocolate aroma is there and warms up the scent a little meaning that it is less 'cool' in the immediate melting area. The white chocolate is perfectly sweet and reminds me of melted Milky Bar. There is a delicate touch of vanilla - a simple drop of vanilla extract which smells delicious. To me, the quality is excellent and there is no 'cheap chocolate' aroma thankfully.
White Chocolate Mint is a gorgeous aroma which is quite different to other Yankee Scents. It is a sweet but not too rich and whilst I would have preferred more chocolate and a tad less mint, I find that this combination works well. I love the way the scent of White Chocolate Mint lingers around my home. It is an authentic aroma which never becomes sickly or overpowering. If you aren't a fan of sweet, minty scents then avoid this one.
I found the strength of this scent to be very apt given the notes that were blended together. After the tealight had gone out, the sweetness of the chocolate and vanilla dropped from the air very quickly but the minty freshness remained in the air for an hour or so. My tart lasted well. I was able to melt it for a few hours at a time over the course of a few days and the scent gradually decreased after 7 or 8 hours but was still very evident for a few hours more.
Overall I can recommend this wax tart. It is of a decent quality and smells divine. It is the perfect scent for melting during the day or in the evening. It is well worth sourcing in my opinion.
