A great way to introduce some festive scents to someone special.

I am a bit of a newbie to the whole Yankee Candle phenomenom, but throughout 2011, as I read review after review of all the gorgeous fragrances available, I knew I wanted a piece of that action. I decided that I would also get quite a few female friends and relatives items from the Christmas gifts range. When I started looking into where to get candles from, I was advised that yankeedirect.com was one of the best places to go, and amongst the Christmas items, this was the most expensive and nicest looking gift in the range.

I decided that not only did my Mum deserve this set, but I also bought myself it as a Christmas present. At £20, it was not overly expensive for how nice a gift it is. The set contains 12 festive themed votive candles, held within a very festive looking and original cardboard package. The package is designed to look like an expensive bound book with a festive repeating pattern which looks like a fair isle knitting pattern. This instantly grabbed me being a knitter. The front cover fastens with a piece of ribbon that velcro's to the side of the box.

Undoing the velcro, you can see the candles packaged inside a plastic moulded tray under a thick piece of plastic. The 12 votives are then also individually wrapped in another plastic layer to keep them fresh until you open them and use them. It struck me at once that in the song, there are 12 days of Christmas, and this gift is 12 seperate gifts really. 12 totally unique votives.

The inside cover gives a list and a brief description of what the fragrances are within the gift, and the candles are arranged in a very pleasing manner. They are all red, white or green in colour, and they are arranged vertically so all the white appear next to each other, followed by all the red candles, finishing off with the 2 green ones. Personally speaking, I am glad most of the candles are red and white, as I find the dark green candles less visually appealing to me. I would not choose them myself just from a picture because of their colour.

There is a subtle non overpowering scent comes from the box before even opening it, which is a mix of cinnamon with a hint of different berries. I would not say any one fragrance dominates in the combined set, which works well. You don't feel like one is going to taint the others before you get chance to get in there, and there is a keen sense of anticiaption over which one will be tried first.

The 12 samples, all different, are:
      - Winter Wonderland
      - Red Berry and Cedar
      - Sparkling Snow
      - Mulled Wine
      - Mountain Pine
      - Sparkling Cinnamon
      - Mistletoe and Fig
      - Holiday Home Sweet Home
      - Christmas cupcake
      - Christmas Eve
      - Christmas Cookie
      - Happy Christmas

My Mum was absolutely thrilled at receiving this as a gift, as I was myself. I had no trouble getting excited at opening the present I had bought for myself. The candles have a very festive theme, but I have no issues myself with burning them through the remainder of the winter season. I think some of the scents with cinnamon may be a bit much (too rich and heavy) as we go into spring and summer.

The votive candles burn very cleanly and evenly in my experience. You do not get a lot of soot, and the candle burns down evenly with all the wax being used up. The smell does not disappear as you are burning the candles.

I would recommend also getting yourself a special glass for burning votive candles in rather than burning on its own, for safety reasons.

I think this candle set has a wide appeal as a gift for females. I would not say it applied to any particular age range - anyone who likes candles or likes their home to smell nice. It is also very reasonably priced in my opinion. Votive candles like this on the web site are approximately £1.60. So although you might get deals like 'Buy 10 get 2 free' to buy 12 votives at full price you would be expecting to pay about £16. The packaging is worth the extra few pounds to make a special gift.

For someone new to the range, like myself, it is a perfect way to experiment with some different fun fragrances.

A perfect gift for any candle lover!

As both of my daughters know how much I love Yankee's scented candle range, they have made sure that I will be well stocked up with candles for a while, as they both bought me some for Christmas. I received a selection of wax tarts from my youngest daughter, whilst my eldest bought me this 'Christmas Memories' gift set.

This set holds 12 of Yankee's votive sampler candles from their festive range and is attractively presented in a gift box designed to look like a book. Indeed the box itself is as appealing as the candles it contains inside.
The box opens like a book, with the cover stuck down with a red ribbon which ties at the side, with the sides of the box designed to look like pages. As you open the cover, you will find 12 votive candles neatly packaged underneath.

As mentioned, the votives are all from Yankee's festive range and those included are as follows :-

        Winter Wonderland
        Red Berry & Cedar
        Sparkling Snow
        Mulled Wine
        Mountain Pine
        Sparkling Cinnamon
        Mistletoe & Fig
        Holiday Home Sweet Home
        Christmas Cupcake
        Christmas Eve
        Christmas Cookie
        Happy Christmas

As well as the festive red box, the festive theme continues as the candles themselves are either red, white or green coloured wax and all have festive names to match the fragrances. The predominant scents here are those of pine, spice, cinnamon and berries and the twelve candles are meant to represent the twelve days of Christmas. The fragrance of each candle is described individually inside the box.

I had only actually tried four of these twelve fragrances prior to receiving this set and therefore was looking forward to trying out eight new fragrances, but I was pleased to notice the inclusion of one of my favourites, 'Christmas Eve'.

This set looks so pretty that it is almost a shame to open it. Inside, the votives are all individually shrink-wrapped with an attractive photograph on the label, just as they are when you buy them individually from Yankee stockists.
Once opened, you must place the votive into a suitable holder. It is important to use a suitable holder for these votives and never use them freestanding. After lighting the wick, it isn't too long before you notice the fragrance begin to appear.
In my experience I find that the strength of fragrance varies from candle to candle, although I must say that all of these votives included in this set produce a decent amount of fragrance and there have been none that I have been disappointed with.
Of course I have my preferences when it comes to the scent and apart from 'Christmas Eve', I have found that I particularly enjoyed 'Red Berry & Cedar' and 'Mulled Wine', which is probably because of my love of spicy fragrance.
Overall I preferred the spicy, fruity scents here over the pine fragranced scents, but have enjoyed every fragrance thus far. The only ones I have left to use are those which I have previous experience of, so I know I will enjoy them too.

What has impressed me the most about Yankee's votive candles and perhaps is another example of 'you get what you pay for' is the fact that the wax burns evenly and you are not left with a well in the centre of the candle. Because of this, you can expect to achieve the 15 hours approx burn time that Yankee state you will achieve when using these votives.
After burning my votives, I have been left with a tiny amount of wax left in the bottom of the holder. With most votives I have used previously other than Yankee, I have been left with much more wax in the holder and have found the wax did not burn evenly. Therefore you are assured of quality when it comes to Yankee.

I am not sure where my daughter purchased this set from but they are available from Yankee stockists as well as Amazon, where you can buy it at a reduced price of £14.99 right now (previously priced at £20).
As the votives retail individually at an average price of around £1.35-£1.75 each depending on where you buy them from, this set is a bargain buy at the moment, either to put away as a gift or use yourself, as there are still a number of winter nights ahead of us yet and these fragrances are ideal 'warm' scents to burn on dark, cosy evenings.

I love this set, it was a lovely gift from my daughter and one which any Yankee fan would surely appreciate.
