Yankee Doodle Warm Glow Wax Burner
Advantages: Looks good, reasonable price, a great way to sample the Yankee scents
Disadvantages: Difficult to remove the wax tarts once used
A couple of months ago I decided to join the Yankee phenomenon and buy myself a wax tart burner so I could sample some of the lovely scents on offer, without having to buy a full size candle. At the time of purchasing this "warm glow" wax tart burner it was on offer on the Yankee website (www.yankee.co.uk) for £8.44 which was 25% off the normal price of £11.25. This offer is still on but I notice the burner is currently out of stock on the Yankee website. I decided to purchase 2 of these, one for myself and one for my boyfriend as part of his Christmas present.
The wax tart burner made up of little mosaic tiles which are all shades of brown, bronze and gold. It has a curved bowl shaped top to allow the wax tart to be held in, and it has a hole in the front to set the tea light into. I was surprised when I received my order of this wax tart burner as it is made of plastic and is deceptively lightweight. The little mosaic tiles are made of glass as per the Yankee website, but the base of the burner is plastic. It doesn't however look cheap or plastic-y in any way, in fact the burner looks a lot more sturdy and heavy than it really is.
As I'm sure most are aware, to use this you place an unscented tea light inside the base of the burner and a wax tart on the top. When you light the tea light, the wax tart melts filling your room with a lovely aroma. I generally find it easier to light the tealight and then slide it into the burner as it is easier than trying to slide your hand plus a lighter or match into the hole. The Yankee wax tarts fit perfectly into the top of the burner. I generally light the burner for an hour or two at a time, then extinguish it and let the wax tart harden again for another time. Each wax tart provides around 8 hours of fragrance before it starts to fade.
When it came to changing the wax tart after the scent has faded, this is where I encountered some difficulties. I found the wax tarts quite hard to remove even though the instructions say they should pop out when pressure is applied with the palm. I found that I had to press down on the tart really hard to get it out. The instructions also say that the burner can be set into the freezer for a while which should loosen the wax tart making it easy to remove, however I have not yet tried this. Unfortunately my boyfriend didn't read the instructions and tried to use a metal knife to remove his used wax tart, which resulted in the plastic of the burner cracking.
All in all I think this is a lovely wax tart burner as it is functional but also looks good in most rooms. I am glad I purchased this, but am taking one star off given how difficult it is to remove the wax tarts once they have been used. Thanks for reading/rating and I hope you found my review useful.
