Advantages: gorgeous unusual colour, lovely sweet citrussy smell, scent lingers for hours after use.
Disadvantages: gets a bit too sweet after burning for about an hour.
I feel like a bit of a latecomer to Yankee Candles, only starting to purchase them in late 2011 after reading many wonderful reviews about this brand. Since then, I have got myself quite a collection of the sampler candles and I have been experimenting to see where my preferences lie.
I tend to prefer the scents that give out a lot of fragrance, and the more herbal cooking type smells usually suit me best, rather than anything too heavily floral or sweet.
Purchasing this was rather impulsive for me. I was browsing birthday cards in WH Smiths, and there was an end of aisle display with a few types of these samplers. I picked up two, one being this vanilla lime one. Previously I have purchased online and chosen because of the name so it was novel basing my choice on my senses. The colour grabbed me first. I have purchased green candles before, but they have been a dark less appealing green. This is a very pale green, of which I can't think of anything I can compare it too, a little minty looking, not as dark as a lime skin, but perhaps more like the inner part of it.
The smell was apparent through the clear plastic that was presvering my candle, and there was a lovely picture of a thick drink with slices of lime and mint leaves on top of it. It just reminded me of summer days, drinking cool drinks in the garden, and relaxing.
On lighting the candle, I found that it was very quick to release its scent. Even if I am doing something else like cooking, the scent is strong enough to fill the downstairs of my house with the scent, and this happens really quickly. I really like this feature as I always feel you have best value when a short burn time scents the home for a long time. I find that I can burn this candle for about an hour before the scent becomes a bit too sweet and overpowering for me. Once the flame is extinguished, I find the scent from this one is detectable for a few hours after use before it starts fading away.
The scent is quite a bit sweeter than I thought although most of the vanilla ones I have tried are so I don't know why I didn't expect it. Although citrussy, it is an artificial rather than natural scent, and to me it was a bit like smelling a glass of fizzy pop or sweets rather than actual lime juice. My children and husband thought it smelled of lemon rather than lime.
While this is not on my list of favourite yankee scents, I do find it rather nice and would happily buy it again. This sampler candle cost me £1.80 ish, and I think that it is very good value for the delightful scent that is released from it. I feel this one is perhaps more suited to late spring/summer burning. Autumn/Winter for me is a time to start bringing out some of the more Christmas themed candles.
The advantage of buying this format for me is that you can get a good length trial of each scent without spending too much money, and I prefer burning candles rather than tarts that you can buy from this range. I find that it is easy to light candles from this brand, the candles burn evenly in a holder, and when I extinguish them, the wax solidifies again quickly and is ready to put away safely till the next time I use it. I am happy to buy from this brand as I know the quality is always excellent, and although some scents are not for me, there have been none that have been awful, and I get a pleasant smelling home and relaxing atmosphere.
Summary: A lovely hint of summer in a candle format.
