Description: Model ID 3C16611-ME / 3Com SuperStack II Dual Speed Hub 500 - Hub - 24 ports - EN, Fast EN - 10Base-T, 100Base-TX - stackable / The SuperStack II Dual Speed Hub 500 provides the power of shared 100 Mbps Fast Ethernet with the flexibility to connect 10 Mbps Ethernet devices or ... more
3Com Superstack II Dual Speed Hub 500 ... users in the same hub. The 10/100 auto-sensing capability on each port provides transparent support for 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps shared connections, automatically detecting the speed of the attached PC NIC and channeling the data to the appropriate segment. An internal 2-port switch ensures seamless integration of 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps users in the same hub. Designed for the smoothest and most cost-effective migration to Fast Ethernet, it works with existing 10 Mbps NICs, and when used in combination with 10/100 NICs, will automatically upgrade the connection to 100 Mbps. As a scalable solution, users can add SNMP/RMON management when required. A single user-installable management module manages a stack of up to eight Dual Speed Hub 500s with full SNMP, nine-group RMON+, Web-based management resilient links, and 3Com's advanced LAN Security Architecture (LSA) support.

The Super Stack II Dual Speed Hub 500 offers flexibility and increased control for Fast Ethernet network designs. When combined with an optional 100BASE-TX/FX distance extender module, the hub extends its use in network design configurations normally restricted by Fast Ethernet rules. For example, Fast Ethernet rules limit daisy-chaining of hubs via repeater-port connections to only two units, and limit the intrahub cabling distance to only 5 m. However, the 100BASE-TX or FX distance extender modules allow you to daisy-chain virtually an unlimited number of SuperStack II Dual Speed Hub 500 units and increase the supported intrahub cable distance to up to 100 m on copper or up to 2 km on fiber in full-duplex mode. The extender module plugs into one of two open slots in the back of the hub. The optional hot-swap cascade unit allows hubs to be added or removed during operation. The Dual Speed Hub-PS Hub cascade converter kit provides additional SuperStack II system configuration flexibility. With this optional module, the 10 Mbps SuperStack II PS Hub 40/50s and SuperStack II Dual Speed Hub 500s can be stacked together and managed as a single entity. When stacked together, the 10 Mbps segment on the Dual Speed Hub 500 will be connected to one of the PS Hub 40/50 segments (segment No 1). This feature provides investment protection by allowing you to build 10/100 networks on top of existing 10 Mbps PS Hub 40/50s. It also leverages and simplifies management and monitoring of mixed stacks while saving wiring closet space.
