3Com Switch 7700 Starter Kit ... aggregation or small core deployments, having three module slots and one switch fabric slot. It supports up to 60 Gigabit ports or 144 Fast Ethernet ports using optional switch modules. An additional four Gigabit ports can be accommodated in the switch fabric using an optional sub-module.

The 4-slot chassis has dual power inputs and requires just one power supply for operation (initial power supply included in the 3Com Switch 7700 4-Slot Starter Kit). An optional second power supply can be added for N+1 power redundancy. While there is a third power supply bay in the unit, this bay is not operational.

The backplane provides interconnection for all areas of the switch. Management and control signals, high-speed data signals, and power for the modules are transmitted over the backplane. Fan and power supply monitoring signals are transmitted to the switch fabric via the backplane.
