Auto-negotiation of 10 or 100 Mbps networks, diagnostic LEDs, easy software upgrades, and desktop or rack mounting make the switches easy to use. Fast Ethernet ports, full duplex mode of operation, Media Access Control (MAC) address storing, and several other features for controlling the flow and priority of traffic on the network all create high performance. Several features are included to provide security and reliability: spanning tree protocol for fault tolerance, non-volatile parameter storage, and software diagnostics. Multiple methods of managing the switch, remote network monitoring (RMON), Compaq Networking Management Software (CNMS), port mirroring for analyzing network traffic and checking connection
