Gigabit over CAT 5 twisted pair cable has brought Gigabit technology to the desktop environment. The GIGAline 8000 product line is especially developed for this application. These "Store-and-Forward" Layer 2 switches with "true non-blocking" switching architecture, are equipped with 8k MAC-address memory and 512k data packet memory buffers, they also provide back pressure based flow control. These features make them readily suitable for backbone environments. The switches operate with a packet throughput of 1,488.000 packets/s on 1000Mbit/s. The GIGAline 8000 switches are 19" standard but can also be used as a desktop device. They are available with the conventional Gigabit Front-Ends 1000Base-T (RJ-45) and 1000Base-SX (Duplex-SC). The 1000Base-T ports offer Auto-MDIX and Auto-Negotiation function, data rate (10/100/1000Mbit/s) and operation mode (Half- Full-Duplex) will be set automatically. The 1000Base-SX MMF ports of the GIGAline8000-SX only support 1000Mbit/s (2000Mbit/s in full-duplex mode) connections, but operation mode will be set automatically to Half or Full-Duplex by the Auto-Negotiation function.
