A 100BASE-TX port supporting full-duplex permits deployment of a high-speed server for simultaneous access by workstations. This port can also connect to another switch on the backbone in a multi-switch configuration, or to a 100BASE-TX hub for integration with Fast Ethernet.

An administrator can define up to 16 MAC addresses for each port to enforce network security. These addresses act as exclusive filters that restrict network access to only the authorized users. Alternatively, up to 16 MAC addresses can be set up for each port for explicit forwarding. The switch references these addresses to filter data, automatically discarding frames with undefined addresses to speed up packet switching.
