Enterasys Roamabout Wireless Switch RBT-8400The RoamAbout RBT-8400 performs Layer 2 forwarding and comes with extensive with Layer 3-4 and identity-tracking capabilities. It integrates seamlessly with wired infrastructures and offers redundant load-sharing links, 802.1Q trunking, spanning tree and per-VLAN spanning tree (PVST+). It also supports IGMP snooping, which is vital to supporting IP multicast streams. Quality of Service (QoS) is done with Layer 3-4 application information on a per-user or per-group basis and can utilize IP DiffServ code points. The RoamAbout RBT-8400 runs the RoamAbout Mobility System Software, which provides the intelligence to the RoamAbout wireless network. In addition to managing users' identities as they roam, the switch configures and controls all aspects of the RoamAbout access points under its control. Multiple RoamAbout wireless switch models (both RBT-8100s and RBT-8400s) can work together as a peer-to-peer system to support mobility and enforce security. For example, one switch can support a mobile user's connection to a subnet even though the actual attachment to that subnet is through a different switch. This switch-to-switch exchange requires no changes to existing IP backbones. RoamAbout switches are SecureNetworks capable with initial support for the Acceptable Use Policy, which allows for a single sign-on across both wired and wireless networks to ensure identical behavior, including VLAN membership, Quality of Service, and automatically configured filter/forward rules. In addition, Secure Networks Acceptable Use Policy provides automatic selection of time-ofday/ day-of-week access, encryption type, authentication, usage tracking, location tracking, and associated network statistics. Authorizations stay with users wherever they roam because RoamAbout switches share the information, ensuring secure access and connectivity to the right services. The RoamAbout RBT-8400 includes four Gigabit Ethernet ports. Each connection can use a GBIC for SX/LX fiber connectivity or a built-in 1000Base-T port for unshielded twisted-pair connectivity. Any port on the RoamAbout RBT-8400 can be used for network or distributed AP connectivity. The RoamAbout RBT-8400 supports up to 40, 80 or 120 managed APs simultaneously, depending on the licensing option. It features redundant hot-swappable power supplies, providing high availability. |
