IBM Ethernet Desktop Hub 8242 ... desktop. The 8242 is available in two models - 008 and 016 - providing support for 8 and 16 ports, respectively. An MDI uplink port allows both models to be cascaded to support larger networks. Front panel LEDs provide box level and port-level information for operational monitoring and troubleshooting.

The 8242 has all of the reliability of IBM's large network hubs, plus many of the features and problem resolution aids. It supports true plug-and-play installation, is easy to operate and is flexible enough to support significantly work growth. The 8242 is designed for either tabletop or wall-mounted installation.
